Is the kickr really that good?

depends what "good" is for you....

Its the most futureproof of the trainers currently available to the public. It also plays nicely with most 3rd party software...it will also cost the most.

ooooh nelly

does it come with marriage counselor / divorce lawyer...

They both black and yellow... so look the same, she'll never know... :D

Just make sure both aren't in the house at the same time.

Will it keep me entertained and be simple to use?

The powerbeam pro ant version or kickr will do the same thing(ergo training)....The kickr is just more futureproof since it broadcasts in any protocol...also the kickr is direct drive where powerbeam is wheel on a drum. If you want to splash...get the kickr, if you want some change to buy wife handbag and shoes + a nice steak dinner...get powerbeam. The apps are really the entertaining part...not the hardware.

i get bored easily on a trainer. I quite like the idea of Zwift and a smart trainer.

same here wayne...

sitting on a trainer for an hour can feel like a lifetime if you just looking at power numbers. Zwift is really cool....again think playstation for idt. They dont fully support ble protocol as yet(its in beta...I have hacked it and it works...but was buggy) so with that being said.

The kickr will cost more(well it was R4000 more when I bought my trainer) than the powerbeam ant+ version. Both will do exactly the same...their are both ergo trainers. The extra cost will buy you dual protocol broadcast(ble and ant) and direct drive. Those are really your options.

Want to see what happens in the hammer space....no point in trading in my powerbeam. Love it

You need to compare the Powerbeam to the KICKR Snap, not the KICKR. SNAP now sells for R13,999.

The KICKR is a direct drive trainer.

The whole VR thing is like wanking, some men enjoy it while others prefer some company.... Zwift is a lot better than the older VR systems but it's still VR.  I only do structured time on the trainer.

I use the solitude of the trainer to watch movies or some TV series I would not sit in front of the TV and watch. A series like 24 back to back on the trainer is quite absorbing but it's not something I'd necessarily watch with the kids. Same with junk like Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. Download and watch, makes the training session breeze by.

But if I really want to suffer I find a PnP highlights package on YouTube.

lol I suppose....I used zwift but not for long. Was fun but not structured enough. Gun to my head, what would be the one setup I take:

1 x powerbeam pro ble(compact, easy to store, breeze to setup, no issues)

1 x sub to trainerroad

1 x ipad air

I haven't tried because on the trainerroad website they say the powerbeam does not work on the iOS app?
