Hi guys

Need some help!

I recently sold my large anthem X 29er which I felt fine on comfort wise. I have been offered a really good deal on an xtc 29er frame, only problem is that it is a medium. I am 1,82m tall with a inside leg length of 84 cm. would the medium be an ok fit?

Would appreciate any advice!! It's a deal a can't refuse ( unless it's the wrong size )

Hey. I am 1.86 and ride a GT zaskar large ( very similar geometry to the XTC). With a medium, you may find it a touch small but probably ok. I would just check that the seatpost length is long enough, and that the fork steerer has not been cut too short.

My son is 1.82m and rides a large xtc. The effective top tube length on a large xtc is one of the shortest compared to other brands so best to try and ride one before commiting. A large trek superfly has a top tube almost 2cm longer together with a longer wheelbase. When he is on the bike it almost looks like the frame is too small

Similar length to me, I have a medium

Beware of a seatpost that sticks out too much, as it can put too much stress on the seat tube and increase chances of frame failure.

What year model is the XTC?

Shortish top tube can be countered by using a long stem (100mm+) if you are ok with that

Similar heigh and inseam and Currently on a Medium Zaskar, which is more like a L in other brands but with a short 600mm top tube, with a 100mm stem and some 740mm bars. Most comfortable I have ever been on a bike

I see where the confusion comes from. You're on the upper end of the size range for a medium. Personally I think a large would be a better fit.

However, if you are used to a medium Size frame and you like long stem and wider bars with a 400mm srst post, then it's a legitimate option.

I'm 1.75 and ride a medium but love the nippiness of a small. I fibd the smaller is easier to work with on technical climbs where the bigger bike is a bit of a bus. Tge medium feels better on descents and very long stretches of tar road.

Your choice should boil down to what YOU feel comfortable on not the opinion of us Internet"experts"

It's the wrong size. End of story. You can "make it fit" by sticking long stems and wide bars and a long seat post into it, but it will still be the wrong size for you.

Pass on the deal. A cheap price is not worth going for the wrong size.

Agreed. I had both, in Large, and can only imagine how uncomfortable a medium xtc will be, after a large anthem..
