I plan for a sub 20:00 (touch wood) - my splits:

S1 1:40

S2 3:00

S3 4:30

S4 3:30

S5 3:50

S6 2:30

Maximum stop at the ceckpoints is 15min at CP3 and 4 each.

If you reach CP 3 at 03:00, you should theoretically still be able to make it, but don't bargain on the second half being faster! The coastal wind and the fatigue from the previous stages can make it slower. Keep a steady pace and ride your own race - those guys flying past you just had a few hours sleep and have fresh legs and are getting in the car at the next CP, not you, you still have 150km to go  :D

Sorry for a really dumb question, is there a difference between CP 3 and S3?

Thanx Sias, your splits for the stages helps in planning. I am aiming for a comortable 23 hours and a bit.

I did a nice 12 hour session on Sunday. Don't have the climbs we need, but could at least get lots of sinkplaat and sand in... Feel a lot stronger than last year this time.

I do however still need to figure out my eating (even on training rides), and need to make a plan with my butt - lekker bloukolle van die stamp!

Training is going fantastic actually. We've had some serious wind the last few weeks which has proved a great training tool to increase strength.

I also do a few fatbike rides in the dunes now to get my climbing up to spec.

Feeling confident in my own capabilities, but there's some team dynamics we need to sort out and soon

So how is everyone's training going?

I think I need a new saddle and/or bib, and definitely need to develop a bum care plan!

Going ok. Haven't replaced saddle, yet; but invested in a new high quality bib and trying to nurture that one big saddle sore that does not want to disappear. A few days forced rest from cycling due to work commitments appear to be doing the trick. Will see how the fitness and strength are doing at next weekend's 3 Passes Tour.

Training is also going okay...

My bum just still have some roasties from my last looong ride. Hope its all gone by the weekend.

Frank, what bib did you get?

I'm hoping to have an 'ass-o-meter' assessment done soon to confirm some new saddle options.

Bactroban + germolene + rest + beer/wine (optional

A Giordano Silverline. There is a better Girdano range with thicker padding but the LBS did not have them in my size in stock. And the Silverline bibs have more space in front for the crown jewels.

CWC is having a sale on Assos. I have ridden their S7 Tequipe before (rode 24hours on spinning bike) but bought a Cento and tested it last weekend, it's definitely the most comfortable bib I have ever used.

I suggest you have a look.

Thanks Nonky, I actually saw your advice on the saddle sores thread elsewhere on bikehub and followed it. I'm using Bactroban and some other similar product and its helping (but healing very slowly). The rest from long rides for this and next week until the 3 Passes must do the rest.

Don't know the assos range. Which one would you suggest?

Are the really tight fitting? As my Craft squeezes the $&@ out of my legs, to have the bum/height fit

Tequipe for normal to long riding, Cento for long saddle time. Cento is usually around R5000 a pair, but the special is R3500, worth every penny I say.

They run small, I am medium in everything but Assos (Ftech, Bioracer, Rapha, Spez) but large in Assos.

Thanx! I'll look at the Cento. I see they base their sizes on height... Hmmm...
