Almost to good to be true....

Training for the 36One and the race itself went really well, took it 'n bit slower for an month and then started training again for the Transbaviaan, will again take an brake from long rides after the TB for an month or so and then start doing some final shaping for the Dash!

Training is going slow. Life, weather and work is interfering all the time. Steadily building the time in the saddle - aiming for 2 or 3 rides of 200km in the next few months and then slowing down in the middle of November.

Aiming for some good TITS over the August long weekend.

Being in a team is making for some interesting situations between friends.

3 of us are very dedicated and can do 70km with little stress, the other....well

You're doing solo right?

Yes, doing solo. Riding with son in law (Philip) and aiming for a good finish. If everything goes well, we should come in at 20-21hours.

I want to do a bit more strength/power work as well - there's a nice little "telefoonkoppie" with a 9.3% climb of 1km that should help for stage 3.

Goodluck!

We're all still fairly nervous

The 70km is not the issue - it's a very long day for everyone with little to no sleep for anyone. The girls in our 4-man team were not very strong but they easily finished their respective stages, but on the last stage their wheels came off. Let the weakest member do stage 4.

Just inform him/her that he/she must then ride 120km with a short break at CP5. It will the be a struggle on the last stage.

Our weakest member insists on doing stage 5

Just don't give that person a choice. Stage 6 can take a very long time if you have too keep waiting for that person.

The site is being updated one piece at a time. The route should not change (much) as there is basically only one route to take.

Stage 1: 32km; 668m ascent

Stage 2: 67km; 711m ascent

Stage 3: 76km; 1123m ascent

Stage 4: 74km; 329m ascent

Stage 5: 74km; 309m ascent

Stage 6: 46km; 438m ascent

Is there a route profile of the entire thing?

I'm getting nervous :(
