Doing some research on this

I currently have a 3x10 setup on my 2013 scott spark 920 (stock standard xt/slx) and im considering converting to 1x11.

Except the weight saving, is there an improvement on gear ratios?

And also is there a loss on top end speed?

What is the most cost effective way to convert to 1x11?

Do I have to change the rear hub or is there a freebody conversion for it?

And what would the cost be?

My rear wheel hub is the dt swiss syncros xr2.5

as far as my research and  limited knowledge goes I need 11speed casette, rear deraileur, shifter, chain  and chainring. Anything else?

Thanks

sorry,

if you going with SRAM NX, or Shimano no you would not need to change your freehub body.

You may however have to get a single Chainring these chainrings work for 9/10/11 speed drivetrains.

If SRAM is not your baby, and still wanna save up, there is a XT upgrade kit, in the Classifieds for R3200, great deal, otherwise speak to Kiwi here on the hub

If you go xt 1x11 then you don't need to change anything on your hub. 32t front chainring and a 11-42 cassette and you should have all the gears you need.

If you are asking these questions....why convert to 1x11 in the first place?

You'll be losing a lot of gear ratios (considering you're coming from 3x). You will be losing top end speed (spin out at about 45-50km/h)

That said, I'm running a 1x setup and !%@$ng enjoying it!!

I am considering a similar change. If i may ask, why not just go 1x10 where you could just get a 11-42 10spd cassette and a NW chainring and be on your way (simplisitically stated though i'm sure there are a few other things to be done).

Is the shifting on a 11spd 11-42 that much better than a 10spd? Not asking to be funny or anything, just would like to know from guys who KNOW ;)

In my experience not much better, in terms of pricing the 1x10 in the better option, as replacing the 11spd cassette's can be very pricey...

In terms of feel and usability yes there is a difference, firstly gear range and secondly and most notably the shifting is far more crisper/cleaner on "original" 11spd setups compared to 10spd "hackjobs"

Just looking at the pros and cons koei. To be honest I would not be able to keep up a 50km top speed on the flats for long anyway ^_^

Anyway its like you telling me not to buy a ferarri because its not practical, but you have one parked in your garage.

The only time I have ever spun out the 1x10 (34 to 11 ratio) is when bunch riding on a tar road. Even so, I still did not get dropped from the bunch.

Look at the Sunrace 40/11 cassette and an oval chain ring off Aliexpress.com for the cheapest option. Everything else you can keep the same.

yes!

corrected

Destroyed a XO1 jockey a few weeks ago. for the same price as a jockey you can buy a full xt upgrade kit. for that reason only i will go with shimano over sram due to price. Other than that SRAM all the way

Am I doing this right? (chain tension wise...)

I measured the chain over the 40t cog and 32t chainring + 4pins (2 outside links, 2 inside).

This is what I ended up with.
