GerrieTruter Posted June 3, 2016 Posted June 3, 2016 Is there anyone that can tell me what 26" frames can take a 142+ rear hub wheel? I've been trying to get the information from the internet and clearly my google skills are lacking in that department. All info I got was that it's a Specialized specific issue but can't see what bikes in the Specialized range. I bought a Roval Control SL Trail Carbon wheelset that has a 142+ rear hub, and I'm looking to maybe get a frame that would fit the wheels as it seems I might have difficulty selling the wheels.
V12man Posted June 4, 2016 Posted June 4, 2016 Any frame that takes a 142 through axel will fit the wheel - cassette will be a few mm differently offset - should not be an issue practically.
splat Posted June 6, 2016 Posted June 6, 2016 From the Roval Wheel Instruction Guide The dropout width looks the same, but the cassette is moved inboard by 2mm - probably to optimise the chainline for a 1x drivetrain.Roval Wheel Instruction Guide.pdf

So basically I bought a wheelset I won't be able to use.
GerrieTruter Posted June 6, 2016 Author Posted June 6, 2016 What about a different rear hub and build it over? Was thinking of it but the R4000+ its going to cost me to get the same quality hub and then the cost to rebuild is money I don't have at the moment.
NotSoBigBen Posted June 6, 2016 Posted June 6, 2016 Thanks for the information. So basically I bought a wheelset I won't be able to use. Again as V12Man said those wheels will work in any 142 through axel frame and no I'm not just guessing or 'hoping' I have in fact done it. I used one of those 142+ hubs for a wheel build for my Jamis FS without any issues at all!
Skinnyone Posted June 6, 2016 Posted June 6, 2016 Any frame that accepts a 142 axle will accept a 142+ hub....just understand that you will have to adjust your gears and brakes if you swap wheels between a 142 and 142+ wheelset. Specialized/Roval moved the cassette out by 3mm and the disc out by 2mm so they could move the spoke bed further apart to make a stiffer wheel... Use the wheels, you'll have no issues...

I run a 142 hope hub in a 142+ frame - no issues at all.

Is a thru axle frame the only one that will work?

I suspect there are a few other "normal' frames that can do this kind of a drop out swap - but not sure what.
