Wine2Whales Adventure or Race, which would one would you choose?

Hi Guys,

I have an option of riding in the Adventure or the Race and as I haven't done the event before I was wondering which one would you choose?

Adventure every day of the week. There is usually an unseasonal downpour early in November meaning that at some stage the Adventure or the Ride has a wet day, making the race a bit more "interesting". You would also traditionally place 1 or 2 seedings higher in the adventure opposed to the race, with the same times (and all other things being equal) between the race and the adventure, by virtue of the pro's taking up most of A batch and the more serious racers fighting for places ahead of you.

Need more info on your riding abilities, your partners, what you want to get out of it.

If you love looking at your Garmin, and can handle the heat; and want to see how you stack up to some serious speedsters; then do the race.

If you enjoy riding, dont bitch when stuck behind a few less adventurous riders then hit the adventure; that being said, the top batches of the adventure is pretty serious and very skilled.

So imho, 6 of the 1.

Life is unfair... - a lot of people I know would take whatever they can get just to get off the waiting list and you have options... 

 

But to answer your question, I have done both, and as most will tell you, the Adventure has the better vibe, so that would be my choice unless you do stage races to measure yourself against the pros

 

One warning though, both years I did the event, the race had by far the better weather...

I don't think it really matters. Weather is weather and you can't predict it this far out.

 

The atmosphere of the event is largely going to be determined by you, not the other riders but as always in life there will the fair share of knobs in either event.

 

I'd select the evnt that best suits your training and personal circumstance.

I don't think it really matters. Weather is weather and you can't predict it this far out.

 

 

afaik adventure now had bad weather 3 years in a row.... at what point can one still claim this could not have been predicted beforehand? 

 

but yes, you are right, not a big difference between the 3, you can't really pick the wrong one.

I've done both versions. The race is obviously more "serious" and you get to see the pro's (at night, at prize giving). Enjoyed the Adventure more.
