I know there was a thread about this before but can't find it...

How can i protect or prevent my bike from collecting dust on the carrier at the back when travelling on a gravel road. Unfortunately the new fortuner does not have roof rack options available yet or that i know of.

Anybody done this before or any experience.

What kinds of dust are you talking... normal WC type dust (Breede River etc) or that crazy Namibian stuff.

Honestly the only way I've ever avoided it is getting the bike in a bag and in the back of my ute. Outside even the local dust manages to get in everywhere if it's on a towball rack. Hate the stuff, but nothing get you more gear for a ride than a full strip and lube before you even turn a pedal in the wilderness (the bike that is, not me).

The old fred had a great link to some locals peeps who were making a good looking canvas cover, no idea if it worked.

Even inside the ute it's not safe. One of my mongrels last time decided to have separation issues and eat half the straps on my bike bag, my wifes leather travel bag, shifter cable and one of my brake lines. Nearly an ex-dawg when you're over an hour away from the nearest shop, everyone is champing to ride and your toolkit doesn't keep a full set of brake lines and a bleed kit.

for those who are confused

ute = bakkie

100% Good work... sorry about that. Oh it doesn't mean the tiny NP200 type thing that Chev' are trying to introduce here called a ute.

Are you an Aussie or a Hobbit?

Hint: I say eskie not Chulli-bun and our rugby match ended up pretty much the same as yours did... except we played a full team.
