I was looking forward to seeing him contest the win today.

“This Vuelta win means a whole lot to me... At the Tour, I reached the podium more out of class rather than legs. I didn’t feel well in France, yet I found my best condition here. Also, it was a race with almost all all big GC names in the peloton present: a huge Chris Froome; Alberto Contador, who is one you must always keep an eye on; Chaves and Orica… Winning the race this way, and against them, makes it even more valuable.”

BERTIE wins the most combative rider.. a consolation prize.. but that attack on stage 15 changed the whole Vuelta.

I'm inclined to think that he should've called it a day after the race. Seeing all the media attention he attracts one can understand why Trek would want him for next year, however, he's unfortunately just not a real contender anymore.

Mmm it's a bit harsh.. I think he still brings a lot to the sport and to GT racing. if you see how closely he is marked even at 4min down (see on Saturday in the stage after Chavez initial move when Bert followed and Nairo was quick on his wheel).

He just brings that excitement to racing. Chavez seems to be the new Bert, in the way he races.. these young guys are going to be entertaining us for a long time.

Yip, there's something magical still there as I watch Contador race.

He is very closely marked indeed.

Was impressed with his fighting spirit after the crash.

And still contend for a podium spot until the last 30 mins of Stage 20.

That's remarkable.

Most GC contenders dream of podium of any GT all their lives.
