Please would somebody advise?

I am unable to get a 3x9sp crank for my bike with 9sp components.

So my question is, will a 3x10sp Deore crank work with 9 sp Xt components?

I feel it may work but need the assurance from those in the know?

Google does not have the answers.

Thanks

So im not too technical but have to ask, how does a crank relate to drivetrain speed? I am under the impression that drive train speed is determined by the amount of gears in the rear cassette i.e 9,10 or 11.

Or is this related to the ratio of blades attached to the crank? When we say crank, is that the spider or the entire thing with the blades?

10spd uses a slightly narrower chain than 9spd. So the gap between the chainrings on the 10spd will be slightly narrower, if I understand it correctly. But it will still work.

Thanks. This was my understanding. Chain width vs chain ring gap/width. RD etc has nothing to do with the FD. It was just the gap of the rings which puzzled me.

Thanks to all for the replies
