Rock Shox Revelation Seal Popped??

Went riding on Saturday, and heard a loud "pop" sound. I inspected the bike, but didn't see anything immediately wrong, and the suspension was working properly. A little further down the trail, I noticed the dust seal on the left leg of the fork (air side) was half way up the stanchion. The foam disk was full of dirt and debris from riding with the seal exposed.

What would the cause of this be and how do I fix it? Fork did about 30 hours since the last service.

You may have a scratch on the airshaft or the o-ring got damaged

Point is some air got out of the air chamber and inbetween the lower leg and stanchion

Take it for a basic service and have the dust wipes as well as the top o-ring on the airshaft replaced and you should be good to go

Good luck ......don't ride it anymore dust could have gotten into some very sensitive places

Only a full service will replace the air chamber orings. I'd have a full service done, well have them open the fork and report back. Does sound like an air seal popped but then you should have felt a difference in the fork because a fair amount of air if not all of it would have been lost

I Am starting to think this could be a Rock Shox thing. My SID XX did something similar after about 3 months...

Took it for a service. Seems to be sorted now.

PS: I was told it could be due to too much oil...

I reckon it is due to too much oil in the lowers. Droo will be able to shed some light on the matter.

Either way, best is to send it for a service, it is going to be 900 spent, but the fork will feel amazing afterwards, and you'll have peace of mind afterwards that any dust that went in has been cleaned out. Don't delay doing this.

I don't think it will be an oil issue.  You would have to put way too much oil in the lowers to influence the o-ring.  My guess is simple failure of a seal.  This can also happen if the seals are not correctly sized but I expect it would have happened sooner if this was the case here.  The o-rings can even flatten if the bike is not ridden for extended periods.

This will need a full air side service.

Failed air spring seals... happens to RS every now and then.

Depending on who serviced it last and how long ago they should just sort it out for you - 30 hours isn't very long.
