I would rather go with something that has electrolytes, carbs (complex sugars) and some protein to help with the final push.

Will also help with recovery

Like The oats bar And banana? Or what Contains the electrolytes and complex sugars? The ground nuts is a good source of protein.

First off, I am no foodie (my gutt will disagree!), nor a dietician or racing snake. Just mentioning from experience, have bonked plenty times....

If you feel like having something stronger for the last 45min of racing, perhaps a gel with caffeine would do the trick... Food-wise, yes the bananas would help (potassium and all that). I am guessing that it would be benificial to have something substantial at halfway combined with an electrolyte drink.

There are various bars/gels out there also. Being your first race, it is down to trial and error of the course of a few events in knowing what is going to work. The best is to keep your intake as close to what you do with training.

Sorry couldn't be of any other help

So here is my feedback.

For some of us the colour red does not look much different than green. The marking of the track was done with red paint on trees and grass.

After a very good start i let the front group go that consisted mostly out of the 40km race snakes and a few big names. Then i started to mis turnoffs and got lost a few times. After passing the same people 3-4 times i got very frustrated.

Well eventually when i finished my first 45km i was a bit tired of trying to catch up. I was 20min behind the last person thats doing the 80km, most of the 40km riders was done.

I decided to call it a day, although i experienced all the frustration i still enjoyed the track. It was very tricky with some dodgy drops and fast downhill single tracks with very steep climbs.

Ill say it was a good experience and awesome learning experience. I also realised that the bike makes a big difference, will be looking at a upgrade in the end of the year. Cant wait for my next race.

Btw i never got to really eat much of my snacks or drink my game but almost finished my water because of the heat. Was sweating alot.

Well done! Now that you know what its about, you will be better prepared for your next race.

Have a blast with your upgrades and your future races. And finally, WELCOME to a great lifestyle

This. I thought colour-blindness was more common, but apparently there are no course markers in the world that are colourblind.

In terms of eating, something that I find works well (and I eat alot) is to have a big sip of something every 15mins, and have a bite of something every 30 mins. I also try to eat a full bar while on the line. I find that if you get too thirsty I drink too much in one go, and same for eating. In a race that's less than 3 hours it's not difficult to go on only gels and juice.

yah its sounds like the original colour that was used were pink. They had to change some of the root the morning because of fires and red was the choice of colour.

i saw most of the people used gells. What gells would you recommend? Im not close to a bike shop or shop that has the stuff so ill buy a box next week when im in SA.
