Drunk drivers . . . . .

.......never mind by having the one beer you are putting yourself at the mercy of our corrupt police force

We had friends in SA who decided to take it in turns to never drink because of this exact reason. One Friday night after dinner with us they got stopped and with just one glass of wine the guy was told he'd failed the test and that if he wanted to query it they be happy to take him down to the police station for a blood test - he'd be out by Sunday night, no problem. And meanwhile his wife could walk home along Wittkoppen . . . Once he stopped drinking completely they couldn't fail him without opening themselves up to investigation.

.......Difficult to fight off 20 other sex starved inmates as well.Be carful out there

Enough to put anyone off it if there was a realistic chance of this happening!

Uber saves!

It's just a pity our law enforcement is so hellbent on trying to shut them down without providing a decent alternative to the 25 year old Ford Laser with 3 wheels, no permit and an unlicensed driver who's more hammered than any of his passengers.

I've walked home more than once rather than climb into one of those.

That aside, I think the problem we're facing is way broader than the odd drunk driver - there's zero respect on the roads, and even less in terms of enforcement. When was the last time you saw anyone actually stopped for a moving violation? The only things enforced are speed limits and parking, with the occasional roadblock to check licences in the more affluent suburbs - they're just after the cash.

drinking and driving,,, MATHS FOR IDIOTS very simple, a full zamaleg and you are over,,,,,no need breaking this down, to the "qualified" officer pulling you over in SA if you drink and drive that macheeene is going to tell you to go with,,,or pay the bribe(its not higher grade what most SA drivers do)

honestly if you get pulled over and you have been drinking more than one beer you are legally over the limit,,,,never mind by having the one beer you are putting yourself at the mercy of our corrupt police force

The Border Police fall under the control of Customs but make no mistake those guys are every inch as bad as the regular police.

But yes one beer and that's it. Over the limit. When I've worked on vessels based out of Mosselbaai the captains allows us to drink while ashore but the port entrance is gated and so you always have to do a breathalyzer test (even during the day) so when I've had a few I would take a long walk just to ensure I passed it.

Breathalyser calibration is required every 6 months!  Those of you who work in scientific/ analytic environments will know that even the best equipment drifts and daily (at least) calibration is essential.

There are a number of other problems with respect to what is actually measured by a breathalyser - blood alcohol testing is the only accurate measure but the forensic laboratory services have been so messed up in the last few years that the backlog is enormous.
