I weigh about 100Kg and was wondering what saddles riders of a similar weight are riding. (MTB)

currently riding a Spez Power, had a Spez Henge before that.

Looking at spending about 2-2.5K.

Any suggestions?

I'm 105kg and using what came with my Epic Comp Carbon. Most comfortable saddle I've ever ridden. Plenty 5+ hour rides and stage races.

I think it's very important to get measured. Being a "larger" rider doesn't always mean you have wider sit bones so you might not need the saddle you think you need.

You also don't mention why you want to try another saddle??

I find any rides over 3 hours really painful.

Currently using a 155 that was recommend after a BG fit but that was about 6 years ago and i have dropped about 10KG since then.

Eish. This subject again and the same problems persist, again.

I also weigh in at round 100 and had myself measured. Saddle width of 155 suggested and Spez Phenom bought with much hopes and dreams of pleasant cycling. Aaargh. Worse experience ever. Road the thing for 3 months and felt like I'm giving birth after every 2 hr ride. I persisted hoping it's a matter of "time".

Then reached out on a whim when a Fizik (much narrower saddle, no relief groove) was offered for a test. Sat on the thing and never looked back. Done plenty training rides for the DC and ToGH. Still riding the Fizik and don't think I'll change easily.

Bro, I don't know. With all the pro advice and suggestions, I still stumbled onto the right saddle by trial and error.

So ... hope this helps and good luck.

I have only heard good things about Fizik and is the direction I am leaning at the moment.

thanks for the feedback

Wish... had the same problem with my Giant Trance- got it with Giant saddle, thing gnawed me up from down there with glee...

Got a Fizik Alliante (or some'n like that) as present, first few rides it felt good- actually did a 947 on it, but then it caught Giant's taste for my tender parts...

Around same time I bought a Brookes B17 for my Raleigh SS, and it was like a Gomma-Gomma...

So I stuck same B17 on the Trance. Several 100km+ and/or 6hr+ rides later, incl S2C later, and I will not ever again sit my tender parts down on anything else on a bike.

I weigh about the same as the OP before breakfast. I agree re. the Brooks, although I have the B17 Narrow. Warthog was kind enough to meet up with me to get a feel for the Brooks. Took his Trance for a short spin, and immediately made up my mind (Thanks Warthog!). Bought a Brooks the same day. Best decision ever.

Weekend round trips are 110-130km (8hrs saddle time), and I will never ride on anything else except a Brooks again. I had some nice saddles before the Brooks - SDG BelAir, Fizik etc. All these were good saddles, but whenever I hit the 50 or 60km mark, my arse was letting me know all about it. Now the last thing I think about is my behind.

Also 100kg + here.. I find testing saddles combined with a fit the best way to go. The width of the saddle is crucial to support your sitbone anatomy yes, but the angle of the saddle is also super important. That you need to sort out during a fit. Test as many saddles as you can I reckon!

Do any LBS's in or around PTA offer Brooks test saddles?

There's a brand new one, apparently one of their best models, in the classifieds for R1200.

I've started a thread about them because I'm also intersted in a Brooks but its a lot of money to spend on a piece of rock hard leather.

WTB saddles are also very good, after trying the popular Spez and Fizik saddles I settled on a WTB Pure and a Volt(i think it is), they have more cushion than your average saddle and that seems to do the trick for me.

I jumped on the one in the classifieds like a fat kid on chocolate cake :)

Now the next decision, I have a bike fitting on Friday and am riding Legends MX marathon on Sat...do I fit Brooks for the fitting and man up and ride it for 70km on the Sat or stick with my current saddle and have another fitting after putting on the Brooks?

they measure your sit bones, which should be the same, regardless of your body weight.

Brooks saddle naturally, the 70km will do it good, soften it up nicely, you'll probably need to harden up though :D

Hehehe. What a choice. Remind me of my new hiking boots. Desperately tried to find a guinea pig to walk them in. Lol

All the best with your decision OP. If the old one work well enough I would've stuck with it. But then ...
