  1. Another year has passed. I did a long ride yesterday, and thought about Johann. Good memories. Rest well, Veldkornet.
  2. New bike day tomorrow... back to the trusty hardtail😍
  3. Another year has passed. Gone but not forgotten. Rest well, Veldkornet.
  4. With my 5.10s reaching end of life (literally), I had to get some new shoes. Managed to get hold of these Black Diamond Technicians. Verdict after 5 rides: oh yes! They work fantastically well on my flats, and dare I say it, even better than the 5.10s.
  5. Another year has passed. Gone but not forgotten. Join me in raising a glass to Johann, today or over the weekend. Saluut!
  6. Misty/rainy day out in the Tranquilitas/Elands Valley area. Had a great ride with my brother.
  7. Simba arrived 3 weeks ago. He is a Rhodesian Ridgeback. It's been a while since I've been on puppy duty. He is keeping us on our toes😄 He is now attending 'RR School', with uncle Leeu in charge.
  8. Let us once again raise our glasses in the general direction of Prince Albert. Saluut!
  9. Elands Valley via the Tranquilitas Rim on Saturday.
  10. On the 'Road to Nowhere' (Tranquilitas).
  11. Some Elands Valley exploration east of Tranquilitas (Wonderland area and beyond):
  12. I've been riding a Chisel since 2018. Great bike! The new frames look very nice indeed.
  13. "Flats forever." - Sam Hill https://dirtmountainbike.com/features/flat-pedals-endangered-species.html
  14. Was out the gate at 6am sharp. Stunning day here in Boven... Got home at 08:59 <cough>
  15. Slaaihoek road on the way to Tranquilitas. Even had a Sappi logging truck driver stop to prevent him from covering me in dust, what a nice chap.
  16. Having experienced and solved the maddening clicking sound several times: Does it click when you stand up out of the saddle? If not, it's likely your seatpost/saddle. Remove and clean seatpost and clamp. Add a smidgen (microns, as said by morneS555 above) of carbon grease on the section that goes into the seatstay. Re-assemble and test. If yes, it could possible be a dry rear (through) axle. Take out the axle, clean it, and apply just a smidge of grease. Re-assemble and test. Good luck.
  17. Been riding Sram Level TL brakes on my #hardtail for over 2 years now without any issues. Having always used Shimano, I was curious in the beginning, but soon came to like the modulation, and they stop just fine too. I replace pads when worn, clean pads and rotors regularly enough, etc. etc.
  18. Hardtails are far from dead. Horses for courses, I say. On a similar note, I just bought a 1992 Diamondback steel frame hardtail for R500. It's a rigid single speed (cro-mo fork) with cantilever brakes. This will be my daily commuter/shack bike/coffee shop bike. I'm 49. I should not be allowed anywhere near a full sus.
  19. Nothing like a day out on the bike after a grueling work week...
