Collar bones you can rideĀ a road bike after 3 weeks (although you shouldn't), ribs depends if you're broken or cracked them?

Broken means you're not moving much at all, cracked you can ride slowly after about a week maybe even less.

If you come back too soon and fall off again you could have big problems and maybe a stuffed shoulder later in life. Don't rush your recovery, your body needs time to heal.

Those who have suffered from the unfortunate broken collarbone. How long does it take on average to get back on the bike? How about broken ribs?

Collarbone: 7 days, but it was really painful. Closer to 3 weeks. OK after 4-5 weeks.

Ā  Andrew McLean did the Epic 4 weeks after breaking his, but he's not normal...

Ribs: Not a problem initially (did them in at the same time as my collarbone), but

Ā  were a problem for much longer. So from 2-3 weeks onwards, my collarbone was

Ā  fine, but my ribs were %^&8ing sore. It makes breathing hard difficult (and laughing

Ā  and sneezing)... Probably OK after 6-8 weeks. They didn't keep me off the bike,

Ā  but were debilitating.

Agree on the ribs. Didn't seem like a problem at first, but later on.... Constant pain that seemed to drag on forever. took like 2 months to start coming right. Suppose riding through most of it didn't help either.

Seems like It will be touch and go. My newish (done the Epic) Bontrager front tyre delaminated on a downhill during Sani2C nonstop. Lost control and went down hard. Was operated on tuesday morning. I am entered for the freedom challenge Race Acros SA starting 17 June. And I was so ready and fit and lus...

My son (18) whose collarbone was 'plated' rode a road bike after 4 1/2Ā weeks and MTB non technical after 5 1/2Ā weeks ......

Ā

Andrew Mclean did it in a 2weeks max I think.....

Jaco, you'll be fine by then, with the plate you should be able to ride in 2 weeks, just stay on the IDT for now, are the ribs broken though?

You might have an issue with the pushing sections in the freedom challenge but the rest should be fine.

Also, watch out for soft sand, it tends to rip the front around whcih hurts the shoulder, other than that, you're golden.

I cracked two ribs last week wednesday and sleeping and sneezing have been duzi! But shall be back on the bike on sundayBig%20smileĀ Best of luck with the collarbone!

It all depends on the break. If it's clean and plated then 4-6 weeks should be okay. If it's broken in 3 piecesĀ (like mine was) then closer to 8-10 weeks. I was on the road bike after 8 weeks but only started mtbing after 10 weeks and still took major strain with the technical bits.

Having said that, try it yourself, your shoulder will soon tell you how happy it is with you.
