Cape Town CBD to Newlands/Claremont

Hi there

 

I am a newbie, looking to commute from Cape Town CBD to work in Newlands/Claremont, but do not want to do it on my own. Fairly flexible with times in the mornings and afternoons. Any existing groups or somebody I can ride with?

Which part are you worried about riding alone? I ride it every day, it's pretty safe, apart from the taxis

we a group of guys that go via TM from Newlands to CT in the morning, there are some bikes coming from your side, you might wanna join those okes if you can find out who they are

Hi! Thanks for this - I saw that there are a couple of commuting groups going into town, but couldn't find one leaving. I'll keep my ears to the ground...

Sorry, I only saw your response now. Coming from CBD, I'd take the cycle lane to the Woodstock bridge and then get onto Albert road, then take the cycle lane along Albert road all the way (it becomes Liesbek parkway) to the Rondebosch common. I think I work pretty close to you (near Newlands rugby stadium) and commute to and from Milnerton. Here is my route...

Sorry, I only saw your response now. But commuting is the best part of the day. Although today was one of those rare days I had to drive in and it was soul destroying. Being stuck in traffic is the only time I actually feel like I'm part of the rat race

Hi Oufy, I've recently moved to Newlands and want to commute to Town. Is your group still going? I would prefer to be in a group as I hear plum pudding is not very safe on your own these days.

Fyi:⚠ Mountain bike jacking at lower Rhodes  Memorial today @ 12:40. Grey Giant Anthem MTB taken. Rider ok. Please be vigilant, area around Rhodes Memorial still a crime hotspot.

I'm keen to join anyone going and returning pm from Constantia or Newlands up Rhodes memorial through vredehoek couple of times a week. safer on the mountain in numbers but been cycling it no problem few years now. Also tend to leave office at 5 30 earliest so still on the mountain in the dark on my lonesome which is not ideal. Hey ho
