OK - So I was away last week and received some pics from Nils, then I popped into see Ralph and Nils on Saturday.

Ralph managed to rob 1mm here, there, over there, and just here to ensure the wheel, fork, disk and caliper fit - What a legend!!

Rear brake fitted:

Nothing was fitting before they started shaving and tweaking

Tape needs sorting:

All that is left to do is the tape and to double check everything, they will call when they are ready - and of course I'm away most of this week!!!!

PS - the paint job is an absolute abortion, not happy with it at all, super thin and comes off if you look at it wrong!!  IF I keep the frame it will eventually go for a proper job.

Imagine how good the bike would look if the chain and cassette were also black?

As a kid I always wanted a silver chain and sprocket but couldn't so it ticks a personal box for me

Ok so I rode to an appointment yesterday (about 6km)

First impressions:

  • Dam this thing has two brakes and gears!!
  • Its comfortable - great riding position and seat was a lot better than expected
  • thoroughly like the bars - hate the drops so will probably cut these off (let the trolls and haters begin)
  • gear changes are very smooth - push once to drop a gear - push hard to go up 2 or 3
  • when I freewheel then pedal its very loud - almost like the spokes amplify the noise
  • the levers have gaps where the thumb sits which I don't like
  • my shoes are comfy but Im not as quick into my pedals as my vans (this will take time I'm sure)
  • I need to remember it has a rear brake
  • I need to ride it ALOT more before I even think about taking it off road
  • it was a fun build but a very steep learning curve
  • The front ring that I was concerned about - Im not at all any more (however need to ride it more)
  • I think I'm going to stick to single speed urban bikes!!!
  • It certainly draws attention

Again thank you for all the support, help, comments and pushing me forward.

Any questions please ask away!!

Until the next one: N2
