Can't we just ask Jethro to spray the entire trail network with like anti-snake or something. Or put glass fencing around all the trails so the snakes can't get onto the pathways. Win/Win

Edit Wheel size might be an issue with the cool kids though.....

Good morning Guys and Girls,

Just a warning to be on the lookout for snakes, especially in parts where the rain has just stopped and the sun is out in force again. They like basking in the sun to warm up and when surprised by a tyre going over them, or someone stepping on them, it wont end well.

I went for a ride yesterday at Giba Gorge, KZN, and came across a nice sized Puff Adder in the middle of the trail. Not a big issue because he was nice and relaxed and I could pass him quite easily, got off my bike and chase him into the bushes. Problem is the 5 youngsters that were not far behind me might not have been so lucky, that's why I chased him.

A kilometre down the trail I came across my worst feared snake on the trail, Mr Black Mamba. Now he wasn't as chilled as the Puffy and as I stopped about a meter away from him he jumped, yup I said jumped, into the bushes. Luckily he wasn't too keen on sticking around because they can be very nasty snakes when startled.

I got a pic of the Puffy, but mr. Mamba wasn't very keen on a photo shoot, thankfully not.

I've also come across some decent sized Cobras at Giba this time of year, also not my favourite!

Take care out there everyone and be alert.

I am still trying to figure out why you stopped at the black mamba..[emoji53] do you want him to have a motionless target.[emoji102]

I had a huge mamba drop of the N3 bridge as I was about to go under the N3 riding out of Giba to hillcrest, the old man on duty and myself ran back down the road, I just made sure I outran him. and gave the mamba time to recover and go into the bush.

I don't have the emoticons to express myself after reading that.. yoh

Definitely going to be packing a spade next ride.....

Silly, mambas can't dig holes to bury you after they have killed you.[emoji6]

Well he was lying across the entire trail, was a big boy. So I didn't want to ride over him and annoy him.

Practice your bunny hops. Best way to get over those slithery buggers.

I once almost collided with a monitor lizard hanging around on the trail. I literally almost shat my bib.
