Removing a Campy crank

I want to remove my BB to regrease it but I'm having some issues removing the crank....think I need a special tool (I love Campy, but damn I hate all the special tools).

I think I have the Campy power torque cranks which from the Park Tool video I found needs a special crank puller. Who has a second hand one they want to sell? Or who has done this without the special tool?

Take to a bike shop that has experience in road cranks, unless you know what you're doing and have the tools. Campy tools from Park Tools are freely available if you need.  The chances of you screwing up something like this are good. The torques are high, the threads are often reverse, is it a carbon or an ally frame?

What are you trying to do? Just re grease? Why? Is it noisy - have you done it before?

Even if you take it to them to get the crank out you will need the tools and a torque wrench to replace it. BB Torque's are im,portnat

Yes you will preferably need some special tools plus a bearing puller. Then as follows.

  • Unscrew the crank bolt with a 14mm hex key. The arm will not come off.
  • Remove the washer. ...
  • Place special pad or (plastic mold over the crank if alloy cranks). ...
  • Insert the extension plug. ...
  • Install the CBP-3 bearing puller. ...
  • Pull the crank off. ...
  • Yank out the drive arm. ...
  • Remove the crankarms as above.

If you really stuck you could make do with some thick plastic, a bearing puller and a correctly sized plug or socket. http://www.parktool.com/blog/repair-help/crank-removal-and-installation-campagnolo-power-torque#article-section-3

There are bush mechanic ways but they not recommended.

Carbon frame.

Just re-grease. Heard a noise on the trainer on Saturday and reminded me that it hasn't been done in awhile. Also, because I'm keen to learn and do it myself.

Hmmmm, maybe its not work the risk. Problem is, taking it to a shop also means I dont have a bike for a couple days whereas doing it myself is one evening potentially.
