Will be interesting to see your progress up to the event next year. Good luck.

For your very big dorpie, you could do loops from small to large. Turn left on every vertical street to the bottom, thereby creating small loops. Pass the first loop and turn left at the next one. As you go, you skip the previous left and turn at the next, and thereby you keep making the loops bigger.

I have a similar layout close to where I stay, and use it for interval training - sprint the short sections and recover until back to the same point. The sprints get longer each time. Not saying you must do intervals, but it does make for some "alternative" routes.

Thx yes. I will keep that in mind when it is time for intervals.

We normally go out to the river.. but today sjoe I would've had a 1hr30min headwind coming back.. I am just not ready for that[emoji23] [emoji23]

But it is nice that our dorpie is safe to ride, there will be times when I just don't have anyone to ride with and hubby feels better about me riding the dorpie flat than going out to the river on my own..(for safety reasons of course)

Was also nice as I could quickly pop in at home to refill the bottles and carry on, was quite hot today, ha ha

And I am not an early rises so I only started riding at 12ish [emoji23]

Forget mountain work, you clearly need some South-easter training down here!

Where I am up the west coast, it is also flat, but reasonably safe to ride, and I use the wind as a gradient. About 5% per 20kph. Big blading into a head wind is as good as most koppies!

Ha ha ja lol.. we always have wind, generally when we have a perfect day (like yesterday) it is followed by a few days like today. I also have the tendency to feel sorry for myself in the wind..that's why I decided for a more sheltered route.. had I gone out in the open I would've just hated it (lack of hills also means no shelter on then out rides)[emoji23] [emoji23] so I opted for the in dorpie route.. with time as I get stronger I will manage better in the wind..

There would've been no way to keep the HR down in the wind today and I would've had the problem of having to ride just too hard to move forward[emoji23] [emoji23]

Thor's Rhetorical Question of the Day:

If one of your boys came to you and asked 'Ma, Mama, Mammiekins... I was playing tennis/rugby/jukskei (cos it is Rustenberg after all), and a big gust of wind came up and blew my ball/juk-of-skei and it was tough' , would you reply:

A) HTFU

B) HTFU

C) Peter Sagan would not have an excuse

D) My liefie, let me give you a drukkie

#justsaying hehehe

Don't let the wind get you down. For 10 months now I have been training for a personal thing that I thought was impossible. I am not really interested in racing in races cos as a geriatric-in-training (GIT) I prefer the training to events. But I have gone out in stupid wind recently, and it really does make a big difference. Helped my silly personal goals immensely, and the impossible happened when I least expected it.

3 hrs time in the saddle

Geez Gen

Nicely done ????????

[emoji5]

Thx.. baby steps, I'll get there.

But thx to all for the encouraging words and advice, it is much appreciated.

At this early stage of starting from scratch again (partly becasue i know how much hard works still lies ahead) so every little bit of encouragement and support helps.. my family have been amazing as well, it meant so much to me when my youngest joined me for a bit today, and even when hubby came out to make sure I was okay changing the tube by myself (added by the time he got there the new tube was in already, I had phoned him just to let him know, else if I was running late he would've worried),. and oh hell yes the ice cold beer that was waiting for me when I got home[emoji23] [emoji23]

TIP

ALWAYS have the tailwind back home hey Gen

The wind is your friend... she'll make you strong like Sagaaan ????????

[emoji23] [emoji23] yes indeed[emoji23]

I will post updates as I go along, but not every day.. as I have been.. that will bore you guys to death [emoji23] [emoji23]

Maybe a weekly update unless something interesting or funny happens.

Of course the biggest challenge will be the week that we are in Sodwana.. the tar stretches will be too busy to ride and safety is a major concern for me and there is no way I am putting my mtb through all that sand that is also no fun.. so IDT will have to go with and I will have to pedal whilst going no where.. I refuse to lose a week.. so we will dive in the morning and I will hop on the IDT in the afternoon when it is cooler.

PS I also don't run..not unless a predator is chasing me..so if you ever see me run you better run to.

Why not take it as a recovery week ? Increase your time the week before if possible to build up more fatigue then have an easy one. You won't lose fitness if you still doing other activities, and swimming is good for recovery anyway.
