The Inner Ring

One of the talking points on review of Spring:

Another annual event is Peter Sagan being isolated. It was a problem ever since he became a force in the classics when riding for the now defunct Liquigas team but now it’s his problem. He’s on a reported €6 million at Bora-Hansgrohe and surely on the most top-heavy team as measured by the ratio of the star rider to the team budget. If Sagan wanted he could personally spend some of this to hire in more help, a million Euros could hire the likes of Daniel Oss and Oliver Naesen and leave change spare. However the likes of Marcus Burghardt and Maciej Bodnar offer precious support, they were just undone by punctures at the wrong moment, some things money can’t buy.

One solution would be to merge Quick Step with Bora-Hansgrohe with Specialized as the matchmaker. Of course it’s not going to be 1+1=2 because there’s a cap on the maximum size of the team of 30 riders but it’s a thought to be entertained given Bora-Hansgrohe are a relatively weak team and Quick Step want a sponsor.

Cycling Weekly is reporting that Specialized, bike sponsor of the Quick-Step Floors team, is taking full responsibility for a component failure that resulted in Niki Terpstra crashing during Paris-Roubaix. Terpstra crashed on the Maing to Monchaux-sur-Écaillon cobbled sector, with photos showing the stem and steerer tube detached. Specialized since said that a “miscommunication” led to a pre-production version of rigid steer cartridge, rather than a fully engineered one

That's a Whoopsie of note: In other words they used the 3D printed concept prototype instead of the machined/cast  one?

That's it, forgot to tell the mechanics to put the thicker part on the bike.

I bet Sagan is hoping they claim responsibility for his "bad luck" at PR. And RVV. And the Olympics MTB race.

Patrick Lefevere looked at Sagan as a kid and decided not to sign him. I doubt that he'd look to taking his team to join the kitchen/toilet team in order to get the unlucky one at 6 million euros a year, even if Spesh pay.

Imagine the clash of ego between unlucky one and the bad tactics boys.

To win the Amstel Gold Race you need to have the climbing legs to absorb the 35 climbs that line the route, the punch to attack or follow attacks on the most important of those climbs, and the kick to finish it all off.

The team buses have arrived and the crowds have gathered in Maastricht’s Markt square, where riders are currently heading up to the podium to sign on for the race. The roll-out will be given at 10:20 local time.
