The Munga, some after thoughts.

Firstly, what an amazing 3 days watching this unfold, i makes epic and 36one look like a T20, a fantastic event.

However, while I realise that the tracking system cant be cheap (so well done to Alex and his team for that) , I cant help but think that they are missing the mark slightly in how they present their event.

There are never going to be hundreds and hundreds of people who will want to attempt this, but it could be possible to get thousands of eyeballs watching ("following") it online from around the world.

Then in theory they could sell those "views" to sponosors.

So I get left with a couple a questions:

#1 why is the hub thread/topic not linked to their website? Create the platform for us all (and more non hubbers) to get involved more and see the event sponosrs more.

#2 Why dont they have a dedicated person on social media (like Oli the pinner, at Pioneer, sani2c ect), drawing people off social onto site and there to see sponosors. Bring the thing to life.

#3 Make the riders heros, write each one a profile/story. Again bring the dots to life.

#4 and most importantly I think, why the hell does it not finish in all the way into CT at the waterfront (like the puffer trail run) or something! You have cycled from bloem after all! Right now you cycle from bloem to ALMOST cape town!!

That finish line was a complete fail in my opinion.

I cant help but think this is a fantastic concept that is just (and i do mean only just) missing the mark.

I hope this event will grow into a landmark event world wide leading online spectatering.

In other news, who is keen for a 2017 attempt?

While the tracking did upset me at the end let's be grateful they don't use what the Roof of Africa Motocycles race used this weekend! Now that was a serious stuff up.

But all in, brilliant. And it's far from over. Now our attention goes to the tail end and wishing them to the line before cut off.

Why '... parting thoughts'? The event is still far from over

Exactly. As of now, there is still 45hrs to go, each dot representing a person doing his her utmost to keep moving.

And that is why having a "high profile" Epic style finish line would be difficult and not necessarily make sense. Why, when once the leaders are done and dusted, there may be little interest, other than family and friends, in the rest of the finishers finishing at odd and random times over the next 50 odd hours?

I don't think that it would be very wise expecting the cyclists to cycle into Cape Town through the gang-lands of Cape Town, especially at night, most likely alone, or the traffic in the day.

Okay as above, my apologies for the title. I dont seem to be able to edit it. I am in awe of (and still tracking) the many riders out there, the point was that it comments of the event as an event an not commentary of it unfolding.

However I still feel after an epic ride across half our beautiful country the finish should be more spectacular than a piece of tape in the middle of a empty field. Possibly the center of town rather.  But I now accept that apparently im alone on that idea.

I share your sentiments. My stance is that these riders deserve much more credit and much more recognition than just a tape in an empty field. Maybe not an Epic styled finish, but something that is saying "this is what these nutters have done, they are the extreme 0.5% of us..."

I absolutely agree with you! Just wanted to indicate that its far from over for those riding for a finish...

I know some of them, and have trained with them, so I'm also a bit 'shocked' at the finish line...

Having said that, I think its exactly what Alex was aiming for, a sort of anticlimax if you will, where the internal journey far outweighs what is portrayed

IF I'm not crazy enough to ride it with you, I will definitely be following your dot 'till the finish!

I feel you guys are missing the ethos a bit...

My opinion is that this race is about "self discovery" and riding because you love it. Munga isn't Epic - it isn't about TVs and Pros and public glory - it's about riders pushing themselves to the limit for the satisfaction of finishing.

My 2c anyway. I could be way off the mark!
