what difference does chain length make

Would appreciate some guidance and help, im deciding to make my tri bike a 1x10 setup (54-11/32), as a result i had to put a bigger cassette, my derailleur seems to be able to cope with the size of the 32 tooth at the back but seems to be pulled very tight so we increased the length of the chain by about 6 or 8 links (i cant remember) to get the derailleur to sit more or less in its same position.

So now i would like to know what implications are there if any with having such a long chain?

thanks in advance for any help.

Chain length should make no difference if the RD can handle the range of the new cassette.

6-8 links is a lot extra. Shift down to the 11t sprocket and check the chain length in this position. The RD should take up all of the slack in the chain, ie. the bottom horizontal section of chain should still be under tension and not hanging in a arc or rubbing the RD cage.
