Hollowtech II crank cup removal tool

I recently converted my 2x10 bike to 1x10 however I have endless issues getting the chainline right. Previously on a 3x10 bike this is straight forward so I decided to buy a cheap 3x crankset to simplify things.

The crankset I settled for was https://www.buycycle.co.za/mountain-bike/components/cranks/shimano-deore-m591-crank-set/ which will work fine as replacement for my 2x Hollowtech II. Don't care for the fact that it's 9sp since I will be removing all the chainrings and fitting my narrow wide on it.

My question is does the crankset come with a tool to remove that plastic cup which fastens it to the BB? If not where can I get it and how much will it cost? Ideally I would like to try and do this by myself.

Apparently after loosening the crank arm bolts on the non-drive side, you can use this

to loosen it.

If, by plastic cup, you mean this thing:

I have bought cranksets that come with the tool in the box and some that don't. Your LBS likely throws a lot of them in the workshop bin and may give you one if you ask nicely.

In a pinch you can use a large allen key. The tightening torque is VERY low, less than 1Nm....literally only finger tight. It must be loosened / tightened only while the left hand crank clamping bolts are loose. If you overtighten it the plastic cap splits.

That's also why it is a finger tighten with the crank arm bolts loose - remember also that in the slot of the crank arm there is a plastic piece with a metal pin held in by the 2 crank arm bolts. this also needs removed before fitting the arm.

What worries me is that all of this is the same on almost all shimano hollowtech II cranks... I cannot see that it is any different from your previous cranks.

Yes it is the same, except this is a triple blade not a double. This will be the first  time I attempt to do it by myself and not take it to the bike shop.

I have the tool you need to remove the crank bolt and bb cups. A BBB Bottom Bracket tool.

Got it for about 130 bucks at Flaandria in Stellies.

Else if you are keen for a drive out to Gordonsbay, you can bring your bike and I will help you remove the crank, or you can borrow the tool if you want to do it yourself
