Hey peeps

Entered for Ironman 70.3 in June 2017 and want to use my cannondale supersix for the cycling leg.

Is it safe to fit a set of tri-bars to the slk carbon handlebar? (or should I buy a Slice  :whistling: )

It won't be an issue to mount the TT bars on your carbon bars, but don't over torque the bolts. With carbon bars, I don't go more than 5nm and that seems to do the trick.

However, that being said, you should definitely buy a Slice!

Wont be an issue. Fitted clip on tri bars to my carbon handle bar with no issues.

Just dont over tighten

Cheapest option, just enter it with your road bike , no bars or anything.. The Durban IM is a peleton on the cycle leg anyway.

Do you mean that drafting is allowed?

Thanks for all the other answers!

Drafting not allowed but the bike route is shortened as there is a 30km loop towards the end and groups/bunching happens no matter what the refs try to say and stop

As Shaper mentions, its not draft legal but the amount of drafting I have seen there the last 2 years negates the advantages of TT bars or TT bikes. Just too many athletes in too short piece of tarmac.

A TT bike imho is quite dangerous in the little loop back section. The Durban course is very cycle friendly, a standard roadbike will be good to go.

My wife says thanks for dissuading me from getting the slice ;)
