Coccyx removal

Anyone here had their coccyx removed?

I fell off my MTB and broke my coccyx. It never healed properly and caused huge amounts of pain in the backside.

Short story is that on 5 December I had it removed. I am now wondering how long before I can attempt a ride on the bike again (I am having serious exercise withdrawal)

Follow your surgeons instructions to the letter- if he did not give you specifics- phone and ask him when he is happy to have you back in the saddle

AS V12 said. Not many people around with this type physical challenge and I would address the issue directly with my surgeon (even before he started any operation).

I broke my coccyx way back in 2006 in a car accident. Long story short I finally had mine removed last year end November and I have to say it's one of the best things I have ever done. I was up and running in just over a month - with slight discomfort obviously when sitting in a certain way. When I could sit without experiencing pain - I decided to get onto my bike...funny enough I didn't feel any pain. I didn't think I would be ready for the Cape Town Cycle Tour but to my surprise I had no pain whatsoever when I completed it. To this day I have no pain while cycling, whereas before I would die of pain after getting off my bike due to the pressure from my saddle.

I am in no position to give you advice though. What I can say is that we are all different in how our bodies react to such procedures. Listen to your body, don't rush it and speak to your surgeon when you go for a follow-up.

Good luck and I hope you heal soon!

Thanks all. I am seeing the surgeon again on 29 December and he said do not do anything stupid before that. I guess cycling would be stupid at this stage.

I am starting to do some arm exercises (only thing I can really do right now without some discomfort) now and will see how we go from there.

Right now it feels like I have done about 6 hours straight of butt exercises.

BTW - no specimen in a jar.

To get onto your bike now would not be a good idea. In a matter of 6 weeks I was back on my bike again - However, you should take it easy until your body feels ready.

If you are eventually able to do the Cycle Tour - Good luck! Take care

I did not even know you can remove the thing

Good luck with the recovery dude

Same here too.

After riding with a Spez Body Geometry saddle for a few moths I thought I needed to have mine removed. Fricken killed me after every ride. I thought I will get used to it. Eish.
