Off_da_brakes Posted January 5, 2017 Posted January 5, 2017 From what I've read it seems that it is not recommended that an ordinary hacksaw blade is used to cut carbon (steerer, seat post & bars), regardless of how fine the teeth are. It is recommended that an abrasive type blade is used to ensure a clean cut that does not cause the carbon strands to fray. I'd prefer to use a saw blade and cutting guide to ensure a straight and square cut for a carbon fork steerer. I've searched local hardware stores to speciality tool suppliers and nobody seems to stock these type of hack saw blades. Does anybody know where one can buy abrasive type hacksaw blades? Preferably in the Cape/Somerset West area. I found an abrasive hack saw blade on CRC for R160, which seems a little unreasonable (granted, it is a Park Tool product).
Skinnyone Posted January 5, 2017 Posted January 5, 2017 You ain't gonna find one less than the R160...not commonly needed so not found in average hardware stores...

Cippo Posted January 5, 2017 Posted January 5, 2017 http://www.cwcycles.co.za/product/icetoolz-professional-hack-saw Comes with a carbon blade. I'm sure they have replacements.

pista Posted January 5, 2017 Posted January 5, 2017 Why not use a pipe cutter as you would with the Alu equivalent parts?Pipe cutter will crush the carbon.
