Cradle Route maintence

I was in Johannesburg just after Christmas and took a ride around the Cradle.

I came across a few places where trees and shrubs have grown into the cycling lane.

I wondered why none of the thousands of cyclists/clubs who use this route on a regular basis have taken the effort to go and clear these away.

We make a regular clearing effort to keep the paths/trails here in eMalahleni free fromglass and encroaching vegetation

Yeah. Here is Joburg most tend to just complain about stuff and wouldn't dare give up "their" time for that!!

Are you talking about the road route?

As far as I am aware Hero Adventure has taken over the Cradke MTB Loop maintanance.

But I may be wrong.

I haven't seen any maintenance on the MTB route for a while - but I'm a roadie so maybe missed it?

The road route does have a few places where bushes etc have grown over a bit, as well as sand patches that have run into the cycle lane. At some point, I think, Cycle Lab used to arrange a clean-up of the lane. Don't know if they still do?

I was in the cradle on Monday, they were definitely working on the MTB route on the back section.

Happy to assist with any clean up operation you may hear of.

Did a road ride in the Cradle this morning and saw a tractor drawn road sweeper at work with a Lion and Rhino Park bakkie in attendance, so kudos to them.

Does anyone know if this is their own initiative or doing it in conjunction with others?

I see the mtb track has been recently strimmed and evidence of new bridges going in as well.

It would be great if we could find the answer to this question. If it's support from the L & R, towards the cycling community, it should be publicly lauded, particularly in light of last year's angst expressed by the local residents.

I'm sure I saw Hero 'road work' signs in place earlier this week when some of those MTB trails were being spruced up.

Certain areas on the cycle lane can definitely do with a good sweep, especially after the heavy rains, lots of sand washed onto the road in places. Cycle Lab did have a clean up initiative at some stage last year

Rode in the Cradle this weekend, and it certainly looked like the road lap had been swept. Chapeau!
