How can they expect a person that can barely do basic math (I don't mean calculus etc.) or pass english/afrikaans to study laws of the road which is infinitely more complex than gr9 math.

Icycling Posted January 20, 2017 Posted January 20, 2017 So like the "Fees must fall" - giving education to school goes free of charge. Are these learner now going to expect vehicles free of charge. When will the protest be - "Taxes must fall?" Surely Bicycle riding lessons would be a better idea - given we a poor country?

Most of us middle class folks grew up with parents who drove and we were in cars from birth. SO when it came to drive ourselves we had a pretty good idea of what to do. That is not the case for vast swathes of our citizens and we need to make an extra effort to lift skills and ultimately make our roads safe. Close to 20,000 deaths a year on our roads is a shameful statistic.

The simple things like look left, right and left again and cross when the green man is on. While they are at it, maybe dust off old Zibi and grab a can or two...

King_Crispy Posted January 20, 2017 Posted January 20, 2017 I think this is a brillant idea. I've been talking about this for sometime now. If i'm not mistaken they do this in Finland where kids not only learn the basics but also advance driving (eg: skid pad braking). Like cycling it's about the saddle time. The more saddle time you put into it the better. Some kids go for package (10 lessons) and pass. They cover the pure basics which i feel isn't enough.Finland don't have a thieving bunch of pigs stealing and raping the economy.They're a first world country.Please don't try compare the two. What is their pedestrian accident/mortality rate?Compare apples with apples. Figs and naartjies don't count, even on a Friday
