everyone is sooo negative towards female ridingAngry

I was just watching the SA's replay on SABC and one of the first things they mention  is whether the ladies will be having a tea party. C'mon guys you're supposed to be supporting RSA cycling and building it up which includes the ladies, not breaking it down everytime you see a femaleAngryAngryAngry

Made me really mad...Andrew and others the females are changing, maybe it's time you do as well.

I am going to report your avatar,  it's way too sexy for the hub.

WW it's so true, but then the ladies racing must also pick up their game.  6 of the 1 and a half a dozen of the other.  What works for the one works for the other.  they must really start racing and stop psychying ( spelling) each other up on the bikes

agree with samma!

ladies....i think you have to come to the party and not the party to you....race proper, get the numbers to participate in your racing then the rest will follow.

On the part of the commentators, it's lazy journalism and not very good promotion of their product to say "I wonder if this is going to be rubbish" before much has unfolded.

With the amount of time they have to fill on air, resorting to cliches and old news becomes inevitable especially if there are not many cameras or reporters in different places on an event to break things up a bit.

SABC is often limited in this - camera angle for the Argus finish was just about ahead of the line by 50mtrs, nothing looking across it.

Once there's been a number of exciting races then this will form the basis for the cliches and old news for the future.

Sports commentators are almost universally annoying creatures - esp if my team is losing & they're talking up the opposition.

Ladies cycling is close to my heart and over the past 2 years there have been changes and improvements. With MTN coming on board this year one has already seen changes with the way the ladies race and that minimal races came down to a big bunch sprint.<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

The ladies went to NZ and Marissa showed what we can do against the best in the world.

Then they went to China and Cherise showed us what can be achieved.

The superseries have had a major impact on ladies cycling this year. In some of the races the ladies broke away from some top Vets men and stayed away. Tour Durban Marissa broke away with the leading men and stayed with them to the end. This opened a gap of more than 8 min to the chasing bunch.

I think we must support them because I still believe the next Olympic medal for SA will be from a lady and not a man. Perhaps not this year but definitely this can be achieved in the next 8 years.

The problem we are sitting with is that there is only a handful of ladies that are out there that can really race.(Lynette, Yolande du Toit, Marissa, Cherise, Chrissie, Yolande de Villiers, Cashandra, Irene Tortius, Robyn de Groot, Anriette, Elzette Visage) Hope I did not leave anyone out. But most of the girls are 30+ and with only 4 or 5 that are still young. We need to get more ladies to start racing. How do we do it, I don't have the answer.

Not that age is a problem but if they stop cycling in the next year or two we are going to have a major problem if we do not have more ladies entering competitive cycling.

Well, what have happened last couple races again it could be regarded as negative racing and some are very sad about it as well!!

Yes, Murphy. Agree with you on this. There are just a few that is of good racing quality and there will only be couple again coming from junior next year. I don't know if its sponser problem to be able to ride full time or just comitment of a lot of ladies that is out there or both. But there must be a larger increase in competitive racing ladies who can turn on the pace, etc.

I think the best way to improve ladies racing and numbers mainly is get more ladies at school level racing and get them to be more competitive overall early on and not just one or two total in each cat like most past years if not all of them. By this you can increase numbers of ladies racing and there competitiveness. But this will take years and if someone is willing to get this going and do this over long run!

I mean this is where most mens pros come from, Neotal, some of mtn, Konica, HOP which is our main teams have all riders from junior level and younger.

If SA was serious about developing its sport, it wouldn't put all its cash and resources into only the main sports, such as cricket, soccer, rugby etc.

For example, the Auzzie (heaven forbid, no!!!) gov't prioritized its sprots prgrammes and look how diverse and successful their sport portfolios are.

What future do you see for a pro lady cyclist?  No wonder more ladies are not making it a career choice.

Women's cycling will only really grow in depth with improved safety.

Probably plenty of naturally talented female cyclists in this country

exercising in safe environments like gyms, swimming pools and squash

and tennis courts. Make cycling safe and the number of female cyclists

will increase.

The Elite women's road racing on a national level has been very

positive and aggressive this year! How many major races have been

contested in a big bunch sprint? Not many...

Agree with Murphy. Our next Olympic cycling medal will come from a woman. Or Sifiso!

I could not agree more;

The Category with the best chance of an International medal- Ladies

Superseries has been good for our top ladies.

Just for the record; was not me comenating on SABC, and I agree, World's View and Germinston Century we saw fantastic racing from our top Ladies.
