Some web store definitely have their act together. The others have web store just because, and probably do more business with walk in customers, so their web store is second choice.

I do agree though that if you making use of a stock keeping program, then their is no excuse to keep your store up to date

There are only 2 online only stores I know of in SA, the rest are bricks and mortar that have an online presence. Keeping a record of what is sold off the floor with online availability in realtime is where the issue is.

The stock issues can be irritating but one guess is that it suits the store to get your order paid, even if they don't have stock and then try get rid of something similar to you.  I have had this strong feeling once or twice and have a 27.5 tyre I think is pretty *** as a result.

Always confirm stock before ordering. Always. Burnt my hands more than once before.

I agree that websites should be updated regularly. Nobody is going to argue against it.

But I can also understand that it can be difficult to update a site daily to accurately reconcile with sales and purchases especially if you sell hundreds of products. So at the risk of sounding like I'm making any excuses for them. Its far easier for us as customers to shoot them a quick mail or just call them.

There are plenty of off the shelf (excuse the pun) POS systems that can do sales (both online and in store) that manage stock at the same time. If the item is OOS, it is removed from the online catalog. When stock is loaded again, then it's updated.

This is not hard, but takes a commitment and a bit of effort.

IMHO, the best online store in SA is Evo Bikes.

I would use Evobikes any day of the week and twice on Sundays, but the range of bikes you can buy off their website is very thin.

Keeping your online store synced up to your stock sheet can really be hassle free if you use something like a Woocommerce POS system. WordPress and Woocommerce is cheap to implement (well, free actually) and with a small investment you can get a decent POS system that integrates very nicely...stock problem solved.

Evobikes kick @ss when it comes to service. If they did a price beat type setup I would only buy from them but they are not always the cheapest. That said I have bought from them to spare the hassle with other shops - even at a bit more cost.

  for evobikes.
