I am working at one of the mines for the next three weeks and was wondering if there are any hubbers/cyclists in this area?

Also if someone could suggest some training routes around here it would be great.

I can only assume you are talking about MTB'ing . Don't take ur road bike there . Anyway the place is littered with single track etc . Buffelspoort (Magalies MOnster start) is 10 minutes up the road . On the Barendsvlei turn off you will also find lots of cycling places but watch there are a lot of yellow equipment and dumpers in that area if you are on a main dirt road . To my knowledge the people in that area don't really cycle but if you want to meet some of them go to the Bushpub next to the golf course .

Thanks for the info DR but I ride on the road Big%20smile There seems to be some decent tar roads in and around the area.

epoh, around the mooinooi area you take your life really into your own hands. Way to dangerous. When I worked with the mines all the mine workers with cars showed no respect for anything, and there is no road shoulder either.

We had a training camp there last year.  Yes the road past Mooinooi is a little bit dodgy, but if you go towards Rustenburg via Sparkling waters, past the Wigwam hotel and over Olifantsnek towards Derby, the roads get nicer

A client at one of the smelters in that area made the comment that the roads are so bad you don't know if the ears sticking out of a pothole belong to a rabit or a donkey.
