V-Brake to Disc Brake conversion

Hello

Ive got a scott scale 80, with alex rims ace-24.

 

How will i know if the rims are compatible with the conversion for the rotors?

The frame have space for the bolts to be fitted

 

Any help will be appreciated

The hubs will have rotor mounts, either 6 bolt or centre lock.

If they v-brake rims then you wont be able to use the wheels unless you change the hubs.... will be cheaper to look for disc brake wheels in the classifieds

It is unlikely that the wheels will accommodate discs.

 

You can either rebuild them with disc specific hubs or buy new wheels.

 

As mentioned above. It will be better to replace the entire wheel.

 

I've been down this same road. I converted my Scott to discs.

 

My Scott was able to accommodate 650b, so I went that route.

Unless the hubs have rotor mounts. I've had a couple sets of wheels that had v brake rims and rotor mounts on the hubs so could be used for either.

I did the conversion a few years ago and ended up buying a new set of wheels and Deore brakes.

 

Chris Willense had a good deal on basic Deore brakes which are fantastic - a lot better than the Juicy's on my other bikes. Wheels wise, have a look in the classified for second hand or look at https://www.bike-discount.de/en for specials.

It's a really simple process: If your hub doesn't look like one of the aforementioned pictures, they aren't compatible. Cheapest will be buying a set of secondhand wheels.

 

Then, make sure your frame and fork are both compatible. Buy the right brake adapters for your calipers (this should be Post/IS mounts I'm sure); go to your lbs to get them.

 

Add rotors, and whala: disc brake conversion done!
