I am thinking.of buying en all-mountain/enduring bike. I can choose between a Morewood mbuzi medium 2009 or a Giant reign x medium 2010 or a Giant reign x1 large 2011. Which bike is the best?

All things being equal. Reign.

Take it from someone who's had both. Actually I still have a Reign X.

I've had Mbuzi

2 Reign X's

The Mbuzi is very agricultural and heavy. It's also very high & short. If you could build one up as an arse around bike then yes. Otherwise no. You'll end up hating it. If you want an old school Morewood rather try and source a Shova ST.

The Reigns do have an inherent problem where the bottom rocker link breaks. But the spares are readily available.

Thanks for the info but can you help me choose which of the two reigns. The large 2011 preign has a dropper post and a rock shox lyrik 160mm travel fork where the 2010 reign has a Fox 36 vanilla fork.

I (my girlfriend) has a 2012 Reign X with a lyric. It's a large. She prefers my 2015 Reign so when we ride together I use the older bike. I'm 172cm and it feels a bit shorter than my 2015 Reign. I'd say unless you are shorter than me I'd go Large. The modern fashion for this type of bike is longer anyway.

A dropper post is a must for this type of bike. Does the 2011 have a coil shock on the rear? Unless you want a park bike If possible you want an air shock with a lock out. Luckily the shock size is pretty common and freely available so if it has got a coil you can get an air shock when the time comes and keep the coil for those Shuttle days and Alps trips.

It's very much shorter. Reach on the earlier reigns was pretty short. Current on Large is 458mm and IIRC the Reign X large was 409mm.

Not that that's a "bad" thing, but it means that it's not of the long and low geometry type. More playful, if you will.

I'm 1.72.1 and I agree with the older Reigns having a slightly more compact cockpit than the new.

OP, just check on that Fox 36.. great fork but if it is worn, your decision should be made to go for the other bike on offer. The price of repair or new fork could have you staring at the wall asking why.

I think the medium is Craig Smith's. In which case I'm sure the fork is in good nick.

The village bicycle.

One careful lady owner. And about 6 careless ones.

Just messing. I ride like a granny. I got it from nic who rides like a granny. He had it first. Then Clint had it for about a month after me before Craig got it. Was a really nice bike.
