Price of 2nd hand bikes

It's one thing for higher end where depreciation kicks in hard and 50k for second hand buys a lot more bike than 50k new. How are the classifieds generally perceived for lower end, as in can you get mid range at entry level new prices?

 

 

Last year I bought a Merida Big 9 40 second hand - from Marks Workshop.

 

Knowing Mark and how he operates was the clincher for .

 

 

Money wise - just a bit cheaper than new, BUT it already had a lot of extras.  So all in a good deal for both parties.  And I could not spend a lot of money not knowing if my knees would handle cycling ....  GLAD I did take the chance !!

 

 

That Merida is now my Saturday trail bike.

 

Got a very good deal on a Merida XT Edition :)  Somebody ordered a 2016 model, and did not buy it .. come 2017 it was marked down, and when I showed an interest the shop owner volunteered a massive discount.   "Bit" of an overkill for a commuting bike ... but man it puts a smile on my dial !

And, on 'tuther side, on trying to sell my Thorn Sterling with EBB and full Rohloff hub system in PE recently, I get a "generous" offer of R2000 (two thousand rand only)!!!

 

That is because it hasn't got a jockey at the back so it must be a k@k bike

That's not a 1972, more like a 1989, or thereabouts.

 

But, CLASSIC bikes are worth a lot of money, simply because they are relatively rare and hand made. A 1970s Bianchi ain't cheap:

Willing buyer, if the seller is happy with your offer then you don't have an issue...

 

If you not happy with the price move on and buy something else...

 

If you don't ask, you won't get...
