When you have the dropout broken off as sort of explained above, can it be welded back together and what type of welding does it require.

 

The frame is an old steel frame so I assume the dropout is also from some kind of steel.

 

and DONT ask how it happened.

Ek weet nie so mooi oor hierdie ene nie. Is die dubbele lyne die posisie waar dit nou gebreek het. Dit maak nie regtig saak hoe jy dit laat sweis nie die breek is reg by die punt waar die radius van die as begin. Die derraileur is nie die probleem hier nie maar die kragte wat die as op die punt van die raam gaan oordra. Ek sou nie veilig voel met 'n raam wat so gebreek en reggemaak is nie. Dalk is ek verkeerd. Kom ons wag en kyk wat die fundi's se. Wat is die merke so entjie vorentoe op die dropout. Lyk vir my baie soos die punt waar die wiel vasgeklem was. Indien dit daar was het die dropout heel moontlik gebreek as gevolg van die spanning in die onderste gedeelte.

I would risk it, steel can be fixed. I would ask someone to tig weld it.

 

1st prize would be to get the same droput and braze it in again

Big H the photo is just of a drop out of a bike that I took got from the internet for illustration puposes.. yes the break was on the top where I draw the lines and that is why I have a concern. Texas Sally2008-05-21 07:28:04

it is an old "hansen" frame of a friend of mine and we trying to get it fixed.

Once you know the composition of the steel your man will know what rod to use.

If prepared and carried out properly the weld will be stronger than the the original steel.

Speak to Francois du Toit.He builds frames.

and i find this "Francois du Toit" where in cape Town.
