Cannondale Scalpel Help

Morning guys,

Hope someone here can give me some guidance.

I bought a Scalpel Si2 in January this year from Cycle Lab. The bike went for the 30 Day service and after the DransDrak I did a bearing service of the linkages and the BB because of the wet and muddy conditions.

3 weeks ago I went for a ride and realized that my SAG/Pressure on the rear Rock Shox Monarch XX dropped completely from 130psi to about 50psi after each ride. I took the bike back and the shock was sent to Cape Town. 2 weeks later I was told it was due for a service and I paid R1,500 for the rear suspension service. I got the bike back and the suspension just feels stiff and there is no difference between the lockout function either. Before the service it was plush and soft and on lockout it was like a hardtail.

The bike's got about 2400km on the ODO and I probably need to service the Lefty as well.

What do you guys suggest I do as I stay in Potchefstroom and work in Klerksdorp. Any shops that can do a proper service and perhaps service the Lefty as well?

Thank Izak

Hi Izak,

Scalpel's bearings are like woman on their menstrual cycle, VERY temperamental. And good like dealing with them. More than likely you also going to have to deal with it on a monthly basis.

Also it's very frustrating when is there and you can't ride it.

Are they a special size bearing that you only can get from Cannondale or any Bearing man? (the frame pivot bearings)

I'm not 100% sure, my pops and Boet bought Scalpels, Pop's is going through bearings like anything.

My Scalpel has done 4000 kms and there is nothing wrong with the linkage bearings and neither with the rear shock or the lefty fork.

had to replace the headset bearings once and BB bearings twice.

You should take it off road once in a while then.

The Mud at TransDrak was hectic and the bearings on my Giant Anthem were also finished.

The Shock should feel plush again after the service and if its not i would send it back.

Nope, doesn't even own one. I'm sure my Boet would also going through bearing if he rode it as much as Pops.
