Stolen: Pinarello Dogma F8 2016
When: 17 June 2017
Where: Gauteng

STOLEN from Valverde parking lots from bike racks. Five bikes of our group were stolen. A brown Toyota Avanza entered through security on the premise that he was going to collect a friend and five minutes later he left with all our bikes. My Pinarello frame must have been broken to get it out of the Thule clamp.

Hectic, what a terrible loss, I feel for you.

Without casting aspersions or wishing to be critical any way, I am continually amazed at how many bikes are stolen off racks, at coffee, and at races.

A bike is not secure on a Rack, even if it's locked!! I never leave mine unattended even for a second.

Seriously how do you guard against this?  Are bolt cutters or a cordless grinder (someone would hear it surely?) used or just plain smash until it breaks; SA style?  Some guidance is needed as to what possible protection can be employed (beyond Durex lol).

They could even unbolt the two bolts on the tow bar and take the whole lot and score a R10k bike rack.

I had a Thule rack on my bakkie, that fastens to a steel lid with bolts underneath and lid is locked.

Also, what are the other 5 bikes, might be good to know, as if find 1 will probably find the others...

With the Q rings etc, will be easier to spot if parts pop up.

There were two Bianchi's and two Scott bikes. Pictures on facebook on one post, search Valverde bikes stolen. The two Bianchi's are also reported here.

I was talking about other people's set up in general, yours seemed pretty secure.
