Hi guys and girls..

I am in a dilemma.. I would to purchase a downhill/free ride bike but it is a 2010 with 26' wheels and the frame is a medium.. I am 1,8m tall and by knowledge I am in between a medium and large... But the biggest issue I have is, does the wheel size matter as I would like to be nibble, aggile and quick downhill? I am kinda an adrenalin junky.

Please help as I am clueless and just wanna do right purchases than to buy something and regret it.

DH wagons are pretty few and far between so the chances of scoring one are pretty slim.

Especially locally. Coincidentally, The Syndicate started somewhat of a trend recently and 2017 seems like the start of something new. Pro's are pinning on big wheels now. Or at the very least, opting for them on certain tracks.

So its between 27.5 and 26 then. To be blunt it really boils down to how deep your pockets are.

If you can afford a newer bike with 650b wheels then go that route. But only because it opens up so much more options moving forward. I'm not about to make any claims against 26 over any marginal gains. Which, to the average joe, whether they admit it or not. Really is negligible. Besides, downhill frame geometry hasn't changed nearly as rapidly as trail bikes have in the last couple of years. So a 2010 model downhill bike 'should' have the geometry that's still considered pretty contemporary even by today's standards. This would obviously also depend on the bike specifically.

What you should be concerned about is frame size. This is different for every bike even between two different mediums. Make sure you get the right size for you.

What are you wanting to buy?

Concerning wheel size why not try and see what tyres are easily available and at your height I would consider a Large frame. Try and test a few rides if possible.

Plenty of decent 26"  tyres around. Maxxis Minions most prominent.

Wheels also available in DH sizes. The rest would be just the same for any bike.

I would also suggest a large.

Definitely a large, and 26 ie absolutely fine. Plenty tyre options to choose from, though you may need your order some from overseas. No issue there with the likes of CRC etc.

If you're buying new, then obviously it'd be an easy choice as there are only one or two 26" options available. All the rest are 650

It is a Kona Stab deluxe. To me, the price is wow cheap for what its been rated. That is internet rating tho.

And? Danny and Troy were on 650b

Have a look at Greg Minnaar's time with 29er wheels,

That is interesting.. i just watched the UCI Lourdes World cup and kinda summed up to be kinda no difference really..

I know that the 29 rolls faster and 27,5 is not much behind it and; 26 is light and easy to maneuver

yeah, but geometry trumps wheel size for everything but gravel grinding
