  1. jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way .... Santa is coming/going to ...
  2. Certainly not a sub standard built. It is a Santa Cruz afterall. At worst it will be on par with any great bike from the floor.
  3. Nope. Are you breathing ...
  4. I do not know this gentle man, but a pic like this above speaks volumes. I have find myself unintentional reading nearly all 50 odd pages of this thread. All of them in deep appreciation and gratitude for who he was to family & friends. It hurts to read of his tragic passing. I am pretty much a HUB-novice, but I also have been reading lots of interesting threads. Quite often I would come across a post of Tumbleweed. I always had a "take-two", first reading his post, then looking at his "unusual" avatar. I want to believe he was a free spirit .... With the words of a first nation chief (Riding Storm) I would like to say ... "give [him] a horse for riding and embracing all the hidden winds in the air"
  5. Customs are hopeless useless oxygen-thieves. Had a parcel there for a over a month! They also calculated import duty on top of the shipping fee (which to my opinion is wrong), should only be the item.
  6. Could have bought a handful, saving me twice the trip to a hospital, due to poor suspension setup.
  7. My W2W buddy on his Stumpy + had an effortless ride, with most of the time a grin on his face. He was a complete newby to cycling, let alone mtb'ing. This bike boosts confidence BIG time, and extremely forgiving, letting you do silly things (as a newby) leaving you with a feeling of being an old-timer.
  8. Do I miss something? The link only gives the venue (Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden) and date (29 March), and it is two hours long. No time, and no ticket (cost)
  9. why are you bothered with other people's do's and dont's!? let them be. it has absolutely nothing to do with you (unless they are a direct threat to you or your family). there will always be idiots out there. teach your own to do the right and be the example you want to see.
  10. Dont see the point here I am afraid! Oh well, i suppose any positive input is a good start. And cycling is fun afterall.
  11. Have a look at HOPE too They are not only looking the part, they also do a super job!
  12. Any hubbers got some experience with Miele (bean to cup) machines? They look pretty neat. Also ... I dont have a gas stove at home and would like to use a mini gas burner for my Bialetti, not necessarily a msr/cadac camping/hiking product. Any ideas would be appreciated.
  13. Long Wheel Base "So how many of you have a MOKA pot? I have never used one and am keen to try it out. Any suggestions? I am not even sure how they work exactly." I have a collection, of different shapes and sizes, using only a Moka pot on my camp trips. We joke saying that we will be without or running out of many necessities, but never (with)out of coffee, never!! We love a strong fix, and depending place and mood or whatever, we top our brew up with some ideal milk - yumyum! They are the bees knees; simple and easy to use, with a super brew to top it off! I have been using my baby Bialetti on all my hiking and adventure biking trips. They age well and will most possibly outlive you. It will also give you lots of joy in experimenting getting the brew to near perfection. You might become addicted to the smell and taste of a Moka brew.
  14. a Can't agree more! I want the real thing, or nothing. If any option, I'll go for the non-Chinese product, just out of principle.
  15. the SD 15, extremely comfy. Check them out on the sidionline website. A super nice shopping experience too! looks like one up from the Epic model.
  16. what is a bike without a (proper) bell and a pair of these ....
  17. Hoping to get some good pointers/advice from the gurus and aficionados; I am looking at replacing my Nespresso (Maestria) that does home-duty. I'm running a little to rich on the black fuel, making sense in replacing the current with a "bean to cup" model. Trying to see what is good value for about R10 - 14k (or am I bluffing myself?). Also got to consider 15bar vs 19bar pump and quality of grinder blade. Years ago I had some experience with Jura and Sprada machines, - being Swiss, they worked like an ETA 2824 movement. I also like the Expobar, though they are espresso machines only (to my knowledge), and quite expensive I believe. A few other products that comes to mind is Severin, Saeco, Bosch. Any ideas would be appreciated, thanks!
  18. Wow, that is a awesome video! Makes one really think ... My bro lives in the Okanagan valley, right on the edge of a lake. Laid back or quite adventurous, as you choose; - from bears visiting their garden, fishing from the frozen lake in winter and kayaking in summer, to climbing frozen waterfalls on the other side of the Rocky's, super mtb'ing and trail riding. Canada is a lovely country. or harvest magic mushrooms, or become a firefighter
  19. Dont know why, but women in general age worse than men, when smoking. From age 48, their once voluptuous mouths then start to look like a Kommetjiesgat muishond's poepol - just plooie! YUK Probably a generalization, but I remember reading somewhere it takes roundabout three weeks to break a habit. It is all the worth while. Those first few days are a bit of a panic, but then, suddenly you find yourself being constructive busy without "that thought" crossing your mind. That is when you are getting on top of it, Vasbyt!
  20. I was a casual smoker, mostly a pipe smoker, with quite an expensive collection of pipes. When the religion became a nagger or a monster (which happens in most cases) I turned to cigarettes for a while and rewarded myself every now and then with a Cohiba or Montecristo or a tin of cigarillos. I could kind of manage my smoking habit. Most of the times pipe smoking was quite enjoyable. I nearly perfected a Clint Eastwood "stare you down" with a cigarillo clenched between his teeth. Who remembers those almost iconic scenes? 6 years ago I was working away on contract with a chain smoking colleague. Until then I was chasing the wind in Jonkershoek like a madman. I was fit (but smoking). I came back, joining up with my regular mtb mates (without cycling for a few months, relying only on pure muscle memory), and as we got closer to Jonkershoek I heard this funny sound. I asked my buddy next to me what the hell makes this suffocating screech! He burst out laughing telling me it was ...., me!! ****!! ME!!?? I told him about my 3 month chain-smoking holiday, when he replied "just go google Allen Carr when back home". So I did. That very same evening. I booked my seat on the very next seminar in Cape Town. The presenter (an ex dentist) offers you crap plastic coffee, 5 eat-sum-more biscuits, AND lots of smoke breaks (yeah, bring your smokes with!). My mind was already made up, even before coming to the seminar. BIG Bonus was Discovery (back)paid for the Allen Carr seminar, it wasnt cheap. I quit smoking for the following reasons: * Of which the most important was, - I was born healthy, which I have donated in free will to a unhealthy habit. It is not only unhealthy to me, but to every single one keeping company with me. I wanted to reclaim my good health back! * Intelligent design excluded an exhaust system from my body (unlike those lovely big Oshkosh trucks from years back, and most big and bright yellow toys with monster wheels, billowing black smoke into the air when them engines roar - oh how I love those upright chimneys!!) * Mr BAT, P Stuyvesant, P. Revere, the CAMELman, Peterson & Kapp, Savenelli, and the whole crew dont give a stinking **** about my health, nor contributing a cent to my medical aid for all the years of loyal investments I have made to them. I just paid for a smoke, and it went up in smoke! * It simply vrots! If i really want to vrot, I just go camping up in the desert for a few weeks. * Kissing a smoker is like licking an ashtray! That sucks BIG time. Show me any smoker that loves licking an ashtray!? * In general smokers are inconsiderate. I have two pipes left (still with the same black vanilla tobacco of that July day 6 years ago), harmless together in the tobacco tin; - one sentimental, and one just absolute beautiful German design. Once a while I do open the holder for the vanilla aroma to escape, bringing back beautiful memories of many days and nights spent in the Namib.
  21. YEEEEAH MAN!!! that is what it is all about
  22. Hi all, Been a lurker for quite some time, browsing forums and classifieds, - time to get out. I've been a keen cyclist for many years, cutting my mtb teeth back in the early 90's on a rigid (as in no sus at all "martel pyp") Kona Fire Mountain, racing at brake neck speed down Fort Klapperkop. Those were glorious days! Mtb'ing is my escape. Or drug. Gets me out there. Or high. in the process of building a new steed. Soon ..., very soon ... Have a good one!!
