Rear Light: Cateye rapid X3 or Bontrager Flare R

Allrounder

Hi guys.

I am in the market for a good daytime rear light.

This is the options that I have so far. They cost more or less the same. Chris stocks the cateye and Trek in Durbanville stocks the flare.

What do you think?

Any experience or suggestions about the brand or product?

Can't say anything about the Bontrager product - I have the Cateye and love it. Tons of modes, easy to use, slim profile, USB rechargeable. Winner winner

I had some concerns about the rubber band but 18 months on it's still good as new.

Have the Flare R for about a month now.. Its bl***dy bright... no complaints at all. Well worth the bucks I reckon.

In the dark / early mornings I dont even use it on the brightest setting and its still really visible.

On flashing mode .. plenty. It always shows the green / fully charged Light still when I get home ( 2 hr rides )

This from the site...

Day modes:

65LM flash-5.75hrs,

35LM all-day-10hrs,

25LM steady-4.5hrs

Night modes:

5LM steady-21hrs

Check out the XECCON Mars 30 - Rear light and a Smart Brake... Lights up when you pull the brake via a gyro, pretty nifty.

Don't have knowledge about the Bontrager but I do have the Cateye.

Have been using it for almost a year now I think.

Very impressed.

Some modes are VERY bright.  Up to a point where in the bunch it annoys.

One charge lasts me about 2 weeks, 20 hours of riding.

As said above, the rubber band is holding up.

I switched to a smaller band (garmin band) to make it fit around the seat stay.  Works like a charm.
