Simon's mentions that his bike has a gearbox more specically the Pinion P1.18 

 

This sparked my interest somewhat so I went to there website https://pinion.eu/en/p1-18-gearbox/ to read more about it 

 

Some interesting facts

 

Maintenance is an oil change every 10 000km

 

A 9 speed box weighs 2200g and a 18 speed 2700g

 

Im sure the costing is going to be expensive and I dont think this is revolutionary technology but I though it was pretty cool.

The other benefit I read there is the fact that you can drop the chain and go for a belt drive.. no more lubing
