Catastrophic failure like that on those cranks is very rare, must have been some contamination in the source metal or issue with the cooling of the metal when the crank was poured.

Even a bit of water in the mould... Boils and leaves a bubble during manufacture. Or the way it was tied on a rack, pedal/crank pressed hard against something, or even close to something vibrating against it for a long trip.

But you're right, very rare type of failure caused by some freak event.

Morning Hub Land

Been reading and hearing some good reviews about Lyne cranks and seen also that they sell them currently at R1699 for crank, bb and chain ring incl for the 1x setup...

Now between the 2 cranks, the Lyne crank has a direct mount chain ring whereas the XT crank is a 4-arm crank that bolts the chain ring on.

My question is:

When it comes to the mounting of the chain rings, is a direct mount a better option that the bolt on chain rings or visa versa?

Will one worn out faster then the other?

Does it make a difference?

Thanks

It's funny, when you've had years and years of fantastic service from a specific brand (in my case Shimano), there's just nothing that anyone can say that will convince you to move to another product. :D
