Sagz is a special rider.

No one else in the pro peleton can do the TdF sprint classification the way he does, pick off all the points at intermediates, survive some rollers and yet still win out and out flat sprints without even having a leadout train (he won loads riding on Tinkoff, where it was all about AC).

No one else can come from a (let's be honest) nowhere cycling nation and klap all the big countries with their massive teams three times in a row.

No one else can elect to do the Olympic MTB race, and be at Nino's backwheel 3 minutes after starting from the back of the grid.

He had a long spell of 2nd places and no victories, which must have been like paying school fees. It's not just by luck that he has got to 100 wins so quickly, the oke has mastered his craft.

No one else gets away with the side show things like wheelies, Grease music videos or bike park openings after winning rainbow.

He is a special rider, but as a successful pro cyclist he is automatically under a cloud of suspicion of doping - guilty by association. That is just the way it works. BUT I don't think you can use his results as potential evidence that he is in any way more dodgy than others in the peleton.

Exactly!!!!!!!! YAY, you get me my point, BUT we do this with other riders we don't like.... hence the bias rhetoric.

not sure I do, maybe subconciously.

Let's look at it another way - Sagz is basically bigger than the team. Once tinkoff folded, he could go (budget willing) wherever he wanted  - instead Bora Hansgrohe was catapulted into the big leagues from the Bora-Argon team with him as the catalyst.

If he rode for Sky, I don't think he'd be looked at as a dodgy skyborg - he'd be the one and only Peter Sagan. You just can't compare him to any other rider in the pro peleton.

Wiggo says Sagan is the saviour so I'm rolling with that[emoji23] [emoji23] [emoji23] [emoji6]

"Cycling's saviour! This man is currently bigger than the sport, look after him. Congrats Peter, a true legend & one of the all time greats!" https://t.co/W6PdYSn7AZ

In any sport where people invest emotion you will always have some that love some athletes/teams and others that do not..

Yes, you are right, it must have been subconscious, because you are still trying compare Sagan to other riders... he wasn't the point, our biased opinions on riders and teams were....

As human beings we happily, and often subconsciously make constructs of the world to suit our mood, view or even wants. eg dieting, failure, denialism, avoidance, your fav team, sportsman, cyclist or otherwise. We all do it.

The tricky bit, is accepting and acknowledging when we do it, and trying to be more level-headed.

Absolutely, and thats ok too. Eg: In the MotoGP thread, I give Jorge Lorenzo a lot of uphill, why, because I don't like him... no other logical reason. I can admit that.

Where it starts becoming not ok, is when people can't admit it and do things like "He is dirty because I don't like him, and he is clean because I do like him".

Well actually if they said that I would probably accept it, at least that is honest.

But instead we try to reverse engineer logical reasons to justify an emotional biased opinion, and then we don't apply those same reasons to everybody, but instead ignore our own arguments when the results don't match our opinion.

Maybe. point being, ie. if TomD was a sky rider would there be more excrement thrown at his Giro win - probably. You can replace any other successful rider with similar angle, but just not Sagan - he is just bigger.

I am actually surprised a friday Sagz is a doper thread has never been tried.

that would be fun!

I think there was a stage but it got almost no attention [emoji23]

And I think it's because of his racing history. .kid has been winning since he was teen there was no - Yoh how did he get so good all of a sudden performance. He's just been good from a young age.

Mmm suppose I can't call an expecting father a kid hey.

If Sagan was riding for SKY, would you question his performances MORE than you do now? Its a yes no answer.

No

I see the whole pro squad as dopers. That way I'm not disappointed if they were to test positive.

I just don't like SKY as a team and would love to see some of their riders on other teams.

I wish he would leave Sky because then I can publicly admit to liking him[emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]
