Damage on new cassette

That's completely normal - it's the part of the cassette that allows the chain to shift off to a lower cog. Nothing to worry about.

I thought the same, but the other teeth still look overly worn.

To shift under extreme load.

Skinnyone and dirtypot has thw right answer though

A friend had a 1x upgrade done at his LBS.

On Saturday he could not use the last two gears ... going up the first section of Dorst Berg.

He later realised that it does go up one more if NOT under power ...

I suggested he ask them to check the B-screw as well

new 10sp 11-42 is only compatible with the new RD-m6000 long cage RD, so it may be a combination of the B-screw not set correctly as well as the incorrect RD.

the one tooth that is lower is normal as it helps up-shift but being a aloy sprocket it will mark easy if the rd is not set or if the chain is too short .

Hope this helps
