Tyres for Berg and Bush

Race king protection rear and ikon 2.35 front would be my prefered setup. If you like wider big volume tyres go Ikon 2.35 front and back. They are great tyres just bit on the heavy side. 740g ish per tyre. Ralph/ron never let me down as well. Nothing wrong running barzo front and back.

I'm doing B&B for the first time on jeffsy. Currently have Onza Ibex 2.4s on which are about ~880g.tyre. Have two space Barzo's which weight on the kitchen scale are 680g.

Worth swapping or should I just bulldoze my way through or maybe put Barzo on the back and keep ibex on the front :)

I rode Ibex/Ibex on my Stumpy for a while, but also started doing longerish distances and swopped the rear for a Canis. I felt no difference in grip, but definitely a big improvement in rolling resistance, so I think it would be worth it for you to swop out the rear tyre - that first day is long!

Guys, I really think you're overthinking this. B&B is an awesome race with amazing trails, but any good tubeless tyre will be fine. Like with any really good route heavier, wider tyres will allow you to attack the fun bits more, but you will pay for it on the climbs - which really is not that much. If you are doing one of the 3 day events, day 1 is fairly long with some district road (but the descent off the Berg makes it totally worthwhile) where gnarlier tyres might hold you back a bit, but again it's not a deal breaker.

As said before I'm doing it on Barzo's for the first time this year and am looking forward to the additional grip, although it has slightly more rolling resistance than the ones I had before.

Whatever you choose, make sure your sealant is topped up. I'd even add some more than usual. They do not joke when they call it "thornveld".

I ride an Onza Ibex on the front and a Maxxis Ikon on the back. Enjoying the combination of the fast rolling Ikon and grippy Ibex.

Are you going to win? If not keep your tyres and use the money to buy beers because they is what the berg and bush is more about

The tyres make a big difference, especially if you are not the fittest or lightest of guys... I know I felt a day and night difference with a faster rolling tyre on the back as opposed to a more grippy one, I'm not too bothered about weight though. It's one of the few places I think most riders, top of the field or not, can make a big change for a small amount of money.
