Garmin Edge 510 Case Mount Broken?

So my trust and hassle free 510 gave me a surprise on Saturday. Clipped it into my out front mount (garmin OEM) and went out. A kilometer our of my complex and it was a little skew. So I stopped and put it back in. Still skew. Checked the mount, refit, and still skew! Checked the back, and dammit, one of the ears of the case back plate has broken off. Popped the garmin in my pack and finished a fun ride.

Now, what to do??

I've mailed navworld but had no response. It's not under warrantee, but have no idea on what the best way to go about a repair is.

I've seen some devices that replace the mount with a CNC Alu piece, and I've seen some guys glue their garmins into mounts, but out front will block the charging port.

Anyone have any ideas? I guess a new back cover from Ebay might work but not ideal to ship from the US.

Thanks!

Hi

Exactly the same issue i have and Navworld made it clear that despite my 510 being under warranty the rear cover is not covered under the warranty! The guy at Navworld said that the ears are known to break off.

My 510 is in perfect nick save for the case.

I'm definitely watching this thread.

Wtf? Are you for real? I have only heard good things about navworld so surprised at this feedback.

Anyone maybe have a 3d print adapter plan I can use?

My Edge 500 developed the same problem. Navworld offered me a new replacement if I paid in. I think this is Garmin's policy - they don't repair but rather replace if you chip in. Search on here and a number of hubbers have 'benefited' from this approach.

Or get a glue/screw fitting. Some hubbers have - put out a Wanted in the classified?

As Fat Boab says

Go to Navworld and they will offer you a 520 bundle as a replacement.  The replacement cost is around R1600-1800 and you can easily sell the HRM, out front mount and sensors which come as part of the bundle to cover the replacement cost.

Nope they didn't, I spent a fair amount of time there and they were of no assistance at all. I was told to glue it. I upgraded but have retained my 510.

I'm really surprised with your experience, Navworld are normally willing to help.

A lady from our club had her Garmin fly out of the out front mount and they gave her the upgrade option. (can't remember exactly what the damage was).

I'm pretty sure there was a guy on here some time that had been given an Edge 500 with a broken ear by 1 of his friends and he also went to Navworld and got the upgrade option.

I predict Navworld will soon be inundated with 'recently' faulty older model Garmins. (Let's hope their policy hasn't changed.....)
