Captain Fastbastard Mayhem Posted November 3, 2017 Posted November 3, 2017 Cube AMS 100 Carbon. AM Classic wheels, 1x SLX cranks, SRAM 11sp cassette. Reba fork. KCNC seatpost. 2014 model. Bought it 2nd hand as mentioned. I'm leaning towards the trail...you shouldn't be leaning. You should be walking into the shop now and buying it.
TheJ Posted November 3, 2017 Author Posted November 3, 2017 you shouldn't be leaning. You should be walking into the shop now and buying it. LOL, thanks mayhem. Thanks all :-)
Captain Fastbastard Mayhem Posted November 3, 2017 Posted November 3, 2017 yeah dude the Cube is a great bike, and IMO the RACE would be encroaching far too much, and won't be as good as the CUBE at what it does. The Trail may be juuuust a bit different to the Cube to warrant the purchase. An XCers trail bike, if you will.
Ferro Posted November 3, 2017 Posted November 3, 2017 Be sure to upload pics of your new Trail. Can't get enough of looking at it.
TheJ Posted November 4, 2017 Author Posted November 4, 2017 Seeing as you have a race bike, go for the trail. It's super versatile, will be able to handle the long kms comfortably, and just give you that extra confidence and fun factor when the trail points down. Check out the review on the Trail here - more than enough to convince me.The tester is 1.76m tall and commented that the Large fits like a glove. Would that mean that my 1.89m would be an XL then?
Grease_Monkey Posted November 4, 2017 Posted November 4, 2017 The tester is 1.76m tall and commented that the Large fits like a glove. Would that mean that my 1.89m would be an XL then?At 1.89 I would say you are an XL in every single bike on the market. I take a Large in most bikes at 1.78m.
TheJ Posted November 4, 2017 Author Posted November 4, 2017 At 1.89 I would say you are an XL in every single bike on the market. I take a Large in most bikes at 1.78m.My current hardtail is a 20" and the Cube is a large. I heard somewhere that Momsens are "small" for their sizes. I went down today to check out the sizes and took a spin on a Large Vipa. The seatpost was almost on its max, and still the seat was too low. Its going to have be a XL no doubt. And that rules out the Race One as that only comes in Large, not XL.
GLuvsMtb Posted November 4, 2017 Posted November 4, 2017 Neither. Get the latest Scott Spark 930 and thank me later for saving you the embarrassment of having to tell people you ride a Momsen.... there is always that one guy... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

TheJ Posted November 5, 2017 Author Posted November 5, 2017 Yeah, I'm 1.90m and I'm on an XL Scott Spark although it was borderline, the dropper can only go about 10mm further into the seat tube (I do have short legs for my height though)I have long legs for my height. Usually my seatpost has to go about 2cm heigher than mates the same height.
TheJ Posted November 20, 2017 Author Posted November 20, 2017 Coming from a XC/Marathon background, I never thought I'd admit that I'm liking having a bit of plush suspension. Without saying "that's what she said", that extra inch really does make a huge difference! Super lekker and super enjoyable bike that you can race as well. Like with any good relationship, I put her on a diet immediately. Not that she was plump, but I'm a weight weenie. I stripped off the stock tyres and put on a set of Rockets Rons on the front and Racing Ralphs in the rear. The stock tyres were 798g each. The two Schwalbes came in at 650g and 570g or so. So right there I took half a kilo off the wheels. Also, two +/- 250g tubes were replaced with rimtape and 80ml (g) of sealant each, knocking another 300g or so off. A 32t oval ring was bought from Rapide and the 2x Shimano rings were taken off (about 150g saving). Front derailleur, cables and shifter was also removed. I also swopped the saddle for one of those Spyder clone saddles which I've also got on my other bike, 70g off. All in all, she's a kilo down. What was lekker about this Momsen is that it comes with all the plugs and covers you need to go 1x. Everything supplied. Put it through its paces yesterday, and super happy with the bike. Plush like you can't believe. Lock the shock out and I swear its stiffer than my hardtail. I put about 100km under the tyres this weekend alone. Loving it.
