Road cycling racing bunches

Thanks that was exactly what I was looking for. I'm 32, so would would be VA then if I get the right seeding?

What seeding do they base it on or is there a specific cycling SA seeding? I know there is Racetec, SAS seeding, ASG has their own seeding etc. How do you get a domestic racing license?

How does the racing compare between VA and seeded A for example? is there a benefit getting into the racing bunches as opposed to the higher seeded open bunches?

To race in the Vets, you don't really have to worry about seeding, just buy a CSA Domestic Racing license and you will be in the group.

For the first few kilometers, then you will be on your own for the rest of the race. Don’t just pitch with a license, you need to be fit.

If you can hang out with the best in A all day and not just wheelsuck the group and actually do some work or go in a break off A batch then you may just be able to hang on in VA... maybe.

VA is the guys that are just too old to ride elite or ex-elite riders or VERY VERY serious racers.

I believe it is a bit cutthroat also if you don't have some buddies to race with and support also as some of the "teams" might gutter you also.

Not sure how true any of this is but its also just what I heard... what happens in VA stays in VA...

100%, just giving the OP the low down on how the CSA system works.

Thanks for all the feedback guys, so its seems like the logical move is to get plenty racing in and see how I stack up in the seeded groups before I look at jumping into VA.

Sounds like it is a sufferfest on a different level.

Join the Gauteng Road Champs and see if you can finish with the group.

I joined VB last year and JUST managed to stay on.  Emperors Classic was the only race after that where I joined VB - that was a breeze compared to Gauteng Champs.

Yeah emperors is too flat to make the race very hard. Also the route doesn't hit the windier parts down by heidelburg, not like carnival or R4S that use similar roads.

Ja gutters isn't a word in vets racing. We ride lekker, keep left the entire race. All the teams help each other out.

Gutters, team tactic and the suffering is the easy part of Vets racing, the politics and fragile egos is what makes its tricky :P

So on Sunday I saw a certain VA rider that has recently just finished a 2 year ban. He rode A group............. I didn't speak to him as I nothing in common with him but a mate of mine spoke to him. I joked with my buddy about him chatting to him and he said ja it was a bit awkward with that elephant in the room.
